Auto leveling system does not adjust optical axis of the headlights for vehicle posture

DESCRIPTION

•  The auto leveling does not adjust the optical axis of the headlights according to the cargo and passenger weight conditions.

POSSIBLE CAUSE

•  Headlight leveling actuator malfunction

•  Auto leveling control module malfunction

•  Front and/or rear leveling sensor malfunction

•  Improper installation of front and/or rear auto leveling sensor

•  CAN signal wiring harness malfunction (does not receive vehicle speed signal)

Diagnostic procedure

STEP	INSPECTION		ACTION
1	VERIFY AUTO LEVELING WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATION • Switch the ignition to ON. • Verify that the auto leveling warning light condition. • Does the auto leveling warning light illuminate from turning the ignition switch to ON 3 seconds after?	Yes	Perform the symptom “No.1 headlight auto leveling warning light illuminates when the ignition is switched to on” troubleshooting procedure. (See No.1 HEADLIGHT AUTO LEVELING WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATES WHEN THE IGNITION IS SWITCHED TO ON [HEADLIGHT AUTO LEVELING SYSTEM].)
1		No	Go to the next step.
2	INSPECT IF THE MALFUNCTION IS IN AUTO LEVELING SENSOR OR ELSEWHERE • Switch the ignition to off. • Switch the ignition to ON. • Turn the headlights on at low beam. • Jump DLC-2 terminal B to ground using a jumper wire. • Inspect the headlight optical axis movement. • Does the optical axis move up and down on both sides?	Yes	Go to Step 5.
2		No	Go to the next step.
3	INSPECT IF THE MALFUNCTION IS IN WIRING HARNESS BETWEEN AUTO LEVELING CONTROL MODULE AND HEADLIGHT LEVELING ACTUATOR • Inspect for open or short circuit in wiring harness at auto leveling function does not operate. RH: ― Auto leveling control module terminal I—front combination light terminal F ― Auto leveling control module terminal J—front combination light terminal I ― Auto leveling control module terminal L—front combination light terminal L LH: ― Auto leveling control module terminal K—front combination light terminal F ― Auto leveling control module terminal J—front combination light terminal I ― Auto leveling control module terminal L—front combination light terminal L • Is open or short circuit detected?	Yes	Repair or replace for open or short circuit.
3		No	Go to the next step.
4	INSPECT IF THE MALFUNCTION IS IN HEADLIGHT LEVELING ACTUATOR OR ELSEWHERE • Replace the suspected side front combination light. (See FRONT COMBINATION LIGHT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.) • Does the auto leveling adjust optical axis of the headlight for vehicle posture?	Yes	Troubleshooting completed. (The malfunction is in headlight leveling actuator.)
4		No	Replace the auto leveling control module. (See AUTO LEVELING CONTROL MODULE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION)
5	INSPECT IF THE MALFUNCTION IS IN WIRING HARNESS BETWEEN AUTO LEVELING CONTROL MODULE AND HEADLIGHT LEVELING ACTUATOR • Inspect for open or short circuit in wiring harness. RH: ― Auto leveling control module terminal I—front combination light terminal F ― Auto leveling control module terminal J—front combination light terminal I LH: ― Auto leveling control module terminal K—front combination light terminal F ― Auto leveling control module terminal J—front combination light terminal I • Is open or short circuit detected?	Yes	Repair or replace for open or short circuit.
5		No	Go to the next step.
6	INSPECT FRONT AND REAR AUTO LEVELING SENSOR INSTALLATION • Inspect front and rear auto leveling sensor installation (bend or damaged of bracket, or dislocated link). • Are front and rear auto leveling sensor installed properly?	Yes	Go to the next step.
6		No	Repair or replace the malfunctioning part, or install properly.
7	INSPECT FRONT AUTO LEVELING SENSOR • Inspect the front auto leveling sensor. (See AUTO LEVELING SENSOR INSPECTION.) • Is the front auto leveling sensor normal?	Yes	Go to the next step.
7		No	Replace the front auto leveling sensor. (See AUTO LEVELING SENSOR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)
8	INSPECT REAR AUTO LEVELING SENSOR • Inspect the rear auto leveling sensor. (See AUTO LEVELING SENSOR INSPECTION.) • Is the rear auto leveling sensor normal?	Yes	Go to the next step.
8		No	Replace the rear auto leveling sensor. (See AUTO LEVELING SENSOR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)
9	INSPECT IF THE MALFUNCTION IS IN VEHICLE SPEED SIGNAL CIRCUIT OR ELSEWHERE • Retrieve the DTCs from all vehicle modules using the M-MDS or equivalent. • Is there the following DTC displayed? ― CAN communication wiring harness	Yes	Go to the appropriate DTC inspection.
9		No	Replace the auto leveling control module. (See AUTO LEVELING CONTROL MODULE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)
