THERMOSTAT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZ-CD 1.6]

Warning
•  Never remove the cooling system cap or loosen the radiator drain plug while the engine is running, or when the engine and radiator are hot. Scalding engine coolant and steam may shoot out and cause serious injury. It may also damage the engine and cooling system.
•  Turn off the engine and wait until it is cool. Even then, be very careful when removing the cap. Wrap a thick cloth around it and slowly turn it counterclockwise 2.5 turns. Step back while the pressure escapes.
•  When you are sure all the pressure is gone, turn the cap using the cloth, and remove it.

1.  Remove the engine cover. (See ENGINE COVER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZ-CD 1.6].)

2.  Remove the air cleaner and air hose component. (See INTAKE-AIR SYSTEM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZ-CD 1.6].)

3.  Remove the battery and battery tray. (See BATTERY REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZ-CD 1.6].)

4.  Remove the aerodynamic under cover No.2. (See AERODYNAMIC UNDER COVER NO.2 REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

5.  Drain the engine coolant. (See ENGINE COOLANT REPLACEMENT [MZ-CD 1.6].)

6.  Remove in the order indicated in the table.

7.  Install in the reverse order of removal.

8.  Refill the engine coolant. (See ENGINE COOLANT REPLACEMENT [MZ-CD 1.6].)

9.  Inspect for engine coolant leakage. (See ENGINE COOLANT LEAKAGE INSPECTION [MZ-CD 1.6].)

Coolant Reserve Tank Hose Removal Note

1.  Perform the following steps to disconnect the coolant reserve tank hose.

(1)  Remove the retainer in the direction of the arrow shown in the figure.

(2)  Pull the coolant reserve tank hose in the direction of the arrow shown in the figure.


Coolant Reserve Tank Hose Installation Note

1.  Perform the following steps to connect the coolant reserve tank hose.

(1)  Install the retainer to the coolant reserve tank hose.
(2)  Connect the coolant reserve tank hose to the thermostat housing with the retainer oriented as shown in the figure.

(3)  Lightly pull and push the coolant reserve tank hose a few times by hand, and then verify that it is connected securely.
