Power supply circuit voltage above threshold (15.5 V or more)

DETECTION CONDITION
•  Water heater unit power supply voltage is other than 9.8—15.5 V
POSSIBLE CAUSE
•  Generator system malfunction
•  AUX HEATER 20 A fuse malfunction
•  Battery malfunction
•  Open or short circuit to ground in wiring harness between battery positive terminal and water heater unit terminal 1A.
•  Water heater unit malfunction

Diagnostic procedure

STEP

INSPECTION

ACTION

1
INSPECT PCM DTC (INSPECT GENERATOR CIRCUIT)
•  Switch the ignition to off.
•  Connect the M-MDS to the DLC-2.
•  Perform the PCM DTC inspection using the M-MDS.
•  Are any DTCs present?
Yes
Go to the applicable DTC inspection.
No
Go to the next step.

INSPECT FUSE
•  Switch the ignition to off.
•  Disconnect the negative battery cable.
•  Remove the AUX HEATER 20 A fuse.
•  Is the fuse normal?
Yes
Install the AUX HEATER 20 A fuse, then go to the next step.
No
Replace the AUX HEATER 20 A fuse, then go to Step 7.

INSPECT BATTERY
•  Inspect the battery.
•  Is the battery normal?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Replace/charge the battery, then go to Step 7.

INSPECT WATER HEATER UNIT POWER SUPPLY CIRCUIT FOR SHORT CIRCUIT TO GROUND
•  Disconnect the water heater unit connector.
•  Inspect for continuity between water heater unit terminal 1A and body ground.
•  Is there continuity?
Yes
Repair the wiring harness, then go to Step 7.
No
Go to the next step.

INSPECT WATER HEATER UNIT POWER SUPPLY CIRCUIT FOR OPEN CIRCUIT
•  Inspect for continuity between water heater unit terminal 1A and battery positive terminal.
•  Is there continuity?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Repair the wiring harness, then go to the next step.

INSPECT WATER HEATER UNIT
•  Clear DTCs using the M-MDS.
•  Perform the water heater unit DTC inspection using the M-MDS.
•  Are DTCs U3003:16 or U3003:17 displayed?
Yes
Replace the water heater unit, then go to the next step.
No
Go to the next step.
7
VERIFY AFTER REPAIR PROCEDURE
•  Perform after repair procedure.
•  Are any DTCs present?
Yes
Go to the applicable DTC troubleshooting.
No
Troubleshooting completed.
