DTC P2105:00

Intake air shutter valve actuator control system malfunction (forced engine shutdown)

DETECTION CONDITION
•  After switching the ignition off, the PCM detects that the engine speed has not decreased for a specified time.
Diagnostic support note
•  This is a continuous monitor (other).
•  The check engine light does not illuminate.
•  FREEZE FRAME DATA/Snapshot data is available.
•  DTC is stored in the PCM memory.
FAIL-SAFE FUNCTION

POSSIBLE CAUSE
•  Engine oil deterioration
•  Fuel injector malfunction
•  Internal engine part malfunction (burning or seizure, abnormal combustion)
•  PCM malfunction

Diagnostic Procedure

Step

Inspection

Results

Action

1
RECORD VEHICLE STATUS WHEN DTC WAS DETECTED TO UTILIZE WITH REPEATABILITY VERIFICATION
Note
•  Recording can be facilitated using the screen capture function of the PC.
•  Record the freeze frame data/snap shot data.
Go to the next step.
2
VERIFY OTHER RELATED DTCs
•  Switch the ignition OFF, and then switch it ON (engine off).
•  Display the DTCs using the M-MDS.
•  Has any DTC other than P2105:00 been stored?
Yes
Repair the malfunctioning location according to the applicable DTC troubleshooting.
No
Go to the next step.
3
VERIFY ENGINE OIL LEVEL
•  Verify the engine oil level.
•  Is the engine oil amount above X line on the oil level gauge?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Replace or add engine oil, then go to Step 8.
4
INSPECT OIL PENETRATION TO ENGINE (COMBUSTION CHAMBER) FOR MALFUNCTION
•  Verify that there is no engine oil in the charge air cooler.
•  Remove the charge air cooler.
Note
•  Oil may penetrate into the charge air cooler due to the driving conditions or excessive oil refilling.
•  When tilting the charge air cooler, does engine oil drain from the charge air cooler.
Yes
Discharge the oil in the charge air cooler, then go to the next step.
No
Replace engine oil, then go to Step 12.
5
DETERMINE IF MALFUNCTION CAUSE IS ENGINE BURNING OR SEIZURE, OR ABNORMAL COMBUSTION
•  Remove the glow plug.
•  Is the heat-generating area of the glow plug burnt out?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Replace engine oil, then go to Step 12.
6
INSPECT FUEL INJECTOR
•  Inspect the fuel injector.
•  Is the fuel injector normal?
Yes
Go to Step 10.
No
Replace the fuel injector, then go to Step 12.
7
VISUALLY INSPECT CYLINDER HEAD
•  Remove the cylinder head and visually inspect the following:
―  Dents caused by piston impact, or adhesion of melt from glow plug, fuel injector, or piston on cylinder head
•  Is there any damage or melt adhesion?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Go to Step 10.
8
VISUALLY INSPECT CYLINDER INTERNAL
•  Is there any vertical scratching (such as one that a fingernail can detect by scratching), or a dent on the cylinder liner caused by valve impact?
Yes
Replace or overhaul the engine as a partial engine.
Refer to the engine workshop manual.
No
Go to the next step.
9
INSPECT CRANKSHAFT BEARING SYSTEM FOR DAMAGE
•  Remove belts from the engine accessories.
•  Install a wrench to the crankshaft pulley lock bolt and turn it clockwise.
•  Does it rotate smoothly?
Yes
If there are any dents or melt adhesion on the cylinder head in Step 7:
•  Replace or overhaul the cylinder head.
Add engine oil, then go to Step 12.
No
Overhaul the engine.
After performing the repair, go to Step 12.
10
VISUALLY INSPECT INTERNAL AREA OF CYLINDER
•  Is there any vertical scratching (such as one that a fingernail can detect by scratching), or a dent on the cylinder liner caused by valve impact?
Yes
Overhaul the engine.
After performing the repair, go to Step 12.
No
Go to the next step.
11
INSPECT CRANKSHAFT BEARING SYSTEM FOR DAMAGE
•  Remove belts from the engine accessories.
•  Install a wrench to the crankshaft pulley lock bolt and turn it clockwise.
•  Does it rotate smoothly?
Yes
The internal engine parts are normal.
Add engine oil, then go to the next step.
No
Overhaul the engine.
After performing the repair, go to the next step.
12
VERIFY THAT REPAIRS HAVE BEEN COMPLETED
•  Reconnect all the disconnected connectors.
•  Refer to the [MEMORY CLEARING PROCEDURE] and clear the DTC.
•  Perform the fuel injection learning.
•  Start the engine and drive the vehicle under the freeze frame data/snapshot data condition.
Warning
•  To prevent an accident, work with another person when the vehicle is being driven (one person drives vehicle, other person operates M-MDS).
•  Observe legal speed limits when driving the vehicle and perform the procedure in a location where safety can be assured.
•  Display the DTCs using the M-MDS.
•  Has DTC P2105:00 been recorded?
Yes
Repeat the inspection from Step 1.
•  If the malfunction recurs, replace the PCM, then go to the next step.
No
Go to the next step.
13
VERIFY OTHER DTCs
•  Has any other DTC or pending code been stored?
Yes
Repair the malfunctioning location according to the applicable DTC troubleshooting.
No
DTC troubleshooting completed.
