OCCUPANT CLASSIFICATION SENSOR INSPECTION [TWO-STEP DEPLOYMENT CONTROL SYSTEM]

id0810b1805100

Warning
•  Handling a side air bag improperly can accidentally operate (deploy) the air bag, which may seriously injure you. Read the service warnings/cautions in the Workshop Manual before handling the front seat (side air bag integrated). (See AIR BAG SYSTEM SERVICE WARNINGS [TWO-STEP DEPLOYMENT CONTROL SYSTEM].) (See AIR BAG SYSTEM SERVICE CAUTIONS [TWO-STEP DEPLOYMENT CONTROL SYSTEM].)
(See ACTIVE BONNET SERVICE WARNINGS.) (See ACTIVE BONNET SERVICE CAUTIONS.)
•  If the sliding mechanisms on both sides are not locked after assembling the front seat, the front seat will operate accidentally while the vehicle is driven, which could result in serious injury. After assembling the front seat, shake it up and down and verify that the sliding mechanism on the both sides are locked.
Note
•  The SRS air bag system can be identified by whether or not the seat track position sensor is present.
―  Standard deployment control system: Without seat track position sensor
―  Two-step deployment control system: With seat track position sensor
•  If cargo is put on the sensor detection area of the occupancy sensor, the sensor may respond.

1.  Switch the ignition off (LOCK).

2.  Disconnect the negative battery terminal and wait for 1 min or more. (See NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION.)

3.  Remove the passenger-side front seat with the passenger-side front seat connector connected. (See FRONT SEAT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

4.  Connect the negative battery terminal. (See NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION.)

5.  Switch the ignition ON (engine off or on).

6.  Connect the negative (-) lead of the tester to body ground.

7.  Measure the voltage at the occupant classification sensor terminals 3A and 3B with inserting the positive (+) lead of the tester into the occupant classification sensor connector.

8.  Verify that the voltages of each of the terminals are as indicated in the Terminal Voltage Table (Reference)

•  If the voltage is not as specified in the terminal voltage table (reference), inspect the parts under Inspection item(s).
―  If not as indicated in the table, replace the front seat. (See FRONT SEAT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)
