POSSIBLE CAUSE
•  Short or open circuit to ground in wiring harness between car-navigation unit and speakers
•  Short to ground in speakers
•  Speaker malfunction
•  Car-navigation unit malfunction

VERIFY MALFUNCTION SYMPTOM
•  Play CD or tune in the radio.
•  Is the volume setting “50” or more?
Note
•  Volume sufficient for audio verification without affect from surrounding environment is “50” or more.
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Adjust the volume setting to “50” or more and verify the malfunction symptom again.
If the malfunction is not resolved, go to the next step.

VERIFY IF MALFUNCTION CAUSE IS SHORT OR OPEN CIRCUIT TO GROUND IN WIRING HARNESS BETWEEN CAR-NAVIGATION UNIT AND SPEAKERS
•  Switch the ignition OFF (LOCK).
•  Pull out the car-navigation unit.
•  Disconnect the car-navigation unit connector and inspect the vehicle wiring harness connected to the speakers for continuity.
•  Is there continuity?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Repair or replace the malfunctioning part for a short circuit to ground in the wiring harness between the applicable car-navigation unit and speakers, or a short circuit to ground in the speaker unit.
Note
•  If the speaker wiring harness or speaker lead wire is shorted to ground, the protective circuit in the car-navigation unit may operate resulting in no sound.

DETERMINE IF MALFUNCTION CAUSE IS SPEAKER
•  Is the speaker resistance normal?
Note
•  If a lead wire contacts the ground or frame, replace the speaker.
Yes
Replace the car-navigation unit.
No
Replace the speaker.
