DTC P0704:00

Clutch switch circuit malfunction

DETECTION CONDITION
•  The PCM monitors input voltage from the clutch switch while the engine running. If the input voltage from the clutch switch does not change when the vehicle stops after accelerating to more than 30 km/h {18.6 mph} and decelerating to 0 km/h {0 mph}, the PCM determines that the clutch switch circuit has a malfunction.
Diagnostic support note
•  The MIL illuminates if the PCM detects the above malfunction condition in two consecutive drive cycles or in one drive cycle while the DTC for the same malfunction has been stored in the PCM.
•  PENDING CODE is available if the PCM detects the above malfunction condition during the first drive cycle.
•  FREEZE FRAME DATA is available.
•  DTCs are stored in the PCM memory.
POSSIBLE CAUSE
•  Clutch switch malfunction
•  Connector or terminal malfunction
•  Short to ground in wiring harness between clutch switch terminal A and PCM terminal 109
•  Open circuit in wiring harness between clutch switch terminal B and ground
•  Open circuit in wiring harness between clutch switch terminal A and PCM terminal 109
•  PCM malfunction

Diagnostic procedure

STEP

INSPECTION

ACTION

1
VERIFY FREEZE FRAME DATA HAS BEEN RECORDED
•  Has FREEZE FRAME DATA been recorded?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Record the FREEZE FRAME DATA on the repair order, then go to the next step.
2
VERIFY RELATED SERVICE INFORMATION
•  Verify related Service Information availability.
•  Is any related Service Information available?
Yes
Perform repair or diagnosis according to available Service Information.
•  If vehicle is not repaired, go to the next step.
No
Go to the next step.
3
VERIFY CURRENT INPUT SIGNAL STATUS: IS CONCERN INTERMITTENT OR CONSTANT
•  Connect the M-MDS to the DLC-2.
•  Clear the DTC from the PCM memory using the M-MDS.
•  Start the engine.
•  Is the PENDING CODE for this DTC present?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Intermittent concern exists.
Perform the “INTERMITTENT CONCERN TROUBLESHOOTING”.
4
INSPECT CLUTCH SWITCH CONNECTOR FOR POOR CONNECTION
•  Switch the ignition to off.
•  Inspect the clutch switch connector for poor connection (such as damaged/pulled-out pins, corrosion).
•  Is there any malfunction?
Yes
Repair or replace the suspected terminal, then go to Step 10.
No
Go to the next step.
5
INSPECT CLUTCH SWITCH SIGNAL CIRCUIT FOR OPEN CIRCUIT
•  Switch the ignition to ON (Engine off).
•  Inspect the voltage at clutch switch terminal A (wiring harness-side).
•  Is the voltage less than 1.0 V?
Yes
Repair or replace the suspected terminal, then go to Step 10.
No
Go to the next step.
6
INSPECT CLUTCH SWITCH GROUND FOR OPEN CIRCUIT
•  Switch the ignition to off.
•  Inspect for continuity between clutch switch terminal B (wiring harness-side) and body ground.
•  Is there continuity?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Repair or replace the wiring harness for an open circuit, then go to Step 10.
7
INSPECT CLUTCH SWITCH
•  Inspect the clutch switch.
•  Is there any malfunction?
Yes
Replace the clutch switch, then go to Step 10.
No
Go to the next step.
8
INSPECT PCM CONNECTOR FOR POOR CONNECTION
•  Switch the ignition to off.
•  Inspect the PCM connector for poor connection (such as damaged/pulled-out pins, corrosion).
•  Is there any malfunction?
Yes
Repair or replace the clutch switch, then go to Step 10.
No
Go to the next step.
9
INSPECT CLUTCH SWITCH SIGNAL CIRCUIT FOR OPEN CIRCUIT
•  Switch the ignition to off.
•  Inspect for continuity between clutch switch terminal A (wiring harness-side) and PCM terminal 109 (wiring harness-side).
•  Is there continuity?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Repair or replace the wiring harness for an open circuit, then go to the next step.
10
VERIFY TROUBLESHOOTING OF DTC P0704:00 COMPLETED
•  Make sure to reconnect all disconnected connectors.
•  Clear the DTC using the M-MDS.
•  Start the engine.
•  Is the PENDING CODE for this DTC present?
Yes
Replace the PCM, then go to the next step.
No
Go to the next step.
11
VERIFY AFTER REPAIR PROCEDURE
•  Perform the Repair Verification Drive Mode.
•  Are any DTCs present?
Yes
Go to the applicable DTC inspection.
