Malfunction Location

•  Trunk lid latch switch circuit malfunction


Detection Condition

•  Short to ground detected in trunk lid latch switch circuit with the trunk closed (trunk lid latch switch off)


Possible Causes

•  Short circuit to ground in wiring harness between trunk lid latch switch connector terminal C and BCM connector terminal 6C
•  Short circuit to ground in wiring harness between trunk compartment light connector terminal B and BCM connector terminal 6C
•  Trunk lid latch switch malfunction
•  BCM malfunction

PERFORM DTC INSPECTION
•  Clear DTCs using the M-MDS.
•  Perform the BCM DTC inspection using the M-MDS with the trunk closed (trunk lid latch switch off).
•  Is DTC B1178:11 displayed?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
DTC troubleshooting completed.

INSPECT TRUNK LID LATCH SWITCH CONNECTOR CONDITION
•  Switch the ignition to off.
•  Disconnect the negative battery cable.
•  Disconnect the trunk lid latch switch connector.
•  Inspect the connector and terminals (corrosion, damage, pin disconnection).
•  Is the connector normal?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Repair/replace the connector or terminal.
After repair procedure, go to Step 6.

INSPECT TRUNK LID LATCH SWITCH
•  Inspect the trunk lid latch switch.
•  Is the trunk lid latch switch normal?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Replace the trunk lid latch switch.
After replacement, go to Step 6.

INSPECT BCM CONNECTOR CONDITION
•  Disconnect the BCM connector.
•  Inspect the connector and terminals (corrosion, damage, pin disconnection).
•  Is the connector normal?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Repair/replace the connector or terminal.
After repair procedure, go to Step 6.

INSPECT TRUNK LID LATCH SWITCH CIRCUIT FOR SHORT CIRCUIT TO GROUND
•  Inspect for continuity between trunk lid latch switch connector terminal C and body ground.
•  Is there continuity?
Yes
Repair/replace the wiring harness.
After repair procedure, go to the next step.
No
Go to the next step.
6
VERIFY DTC
•  Reconnect the disconnected connectors and the negative battery cable.
•  Clear DTCs using the M-MDS.
•  Perform the BCM DTC inspection using the M-MDS with the trunk closed (trunk lid latch switch off).
•  Is the same DTC present?
Yes
Repeat the inspection from Step 1.
If the malfunction recurs, replace the BCM.
Go to the next step.
No
Go to the next step.

VERIFY THAT NO OTHER DTCs ARE PRESENT
•  Are there other DTCs output?
Yes
Perform the corresponding DTC inspection.
No
DTC troubleshooting completed.

•  Short to ground detected in liftgate latch switch circuit with the liftgate closed (liftgate latch switch off)


Possible Causes

•  Short circuit to ground in wiring harness between liftgate latch switch connector terminal A and BCM connector terminal 6C
•  Short circuit to ground in wiring harness between liftgate auto closure control module connector terminal 2B and BCM connector terminal 6C
•  Short circuit to ground in wiring harness between cargo compartment light connector terminal B and BCM connector terminal 6C
•  Liftgate latch switch malfunction
•  Liftgate auto closure control module malfunction
•  BCM malfunction

INSPECT LIFTGATE LATCH SWITCH CONNECTOR CONDITION
•  Switch the ignition to off.
•  Disconnect the negative battery cable.
•  Disconnect the liftgate latch switch connector.
•  Inspect the connector and terminals (corrosion, damage, pin disconnection).
•  Is the connector normal?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Repair/replace the connector or terminal.
After repair procedure, go to Step 8.

INSPECT LIFTGATE LATCH SWITCH
•  Inspect the liftgate latch switch.
•  Is the switch normal?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Replace the liftgate latch switch.
After replacement, go to Step 8.

INSPECT LIFTGATE AUTO CLOSURE CONTROL MODULE CONNECTOR CONDITION
•  Disconnect the liftgate auto closure control module connector.
•  Inspect the connector and terminals
(corrosion, damage, pin disconnection).
•  Is the connector normal?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Repair/replace the connector or terminal.
After repair procedure, go to Step 8.

INSPECT BCM CONNECTOR CONDITION
•  Disconnect the BCM connector.
•  Inspect the connector and terminals (corrosion, damage, pin disconnection).
•  Is the connector normal?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Repair/replace the connector or terminal.
After repair procedure, go to Step 8.

INSPECT LIFTGATE LATCH SWITCH CIRCUIT FOR SHORT CIRCUIT TO GROUND
•  Inspect for continuity between liftgate latch switch connector terminal A and body ground.
•  Is there continuity?
Yes
Repair/replace the wiring harness.
After repair procedure, go to Step 8.
No
Go to the next step.

INSPECT LIFTGATE AUTO CLOSURE CONTROL MODULE
•  Inspect the liftgate auto closure control module.
•  Is the liftgate auto closure control module normal?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Replace the liftgate auto closure control module.
After replacement, go to the next step.

VERIFY DTC
•  Reconnect the disconnected connectors and the negative battery cable.
•  Clear DTCs using the M-MDS.
•  Perform the BCM DTC inspection using the M-MDS with the liftgate closed (liftgate latch switch off).
