HEATER CORE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION

Note

•  Lubricate the coolant hoses with plain water only if needed.

1.  Drain the engine coolant. (See ENGINE COOLANT REPLACEMENT[AJ (3.0L Duratec)].) (See ENGINE COOLANT REPLACEMENT[L3].)

2.  Remove the dashboard. (See DASHBOARD REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

3.  Disconnect the heater hoses from the heater core. (See HEATER HOSE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [AJ (3.0L Duratec)].) (See HEATER HOSE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [L3].)

4.  Remove the heater case (1). (See HEATER UNIT DISASSEMBLY/ASSEMBLY.) (See Air Mix Rod Installation Note.)

5.  Push the heater core from the engine side.

6.  Remove the heater core.

7.  Fill and bleed the engine cooling system.

8.  Evacuate, leak test and charge the refrigerant system.

9.  Install in the reverse order of removal.

Air Mix Rod Installation Note

1.  Be sure the air mix actuator and switch are in the correct position when re-installing the air mix rod.
