Speedometer

Using the Input/Output Check Mode (L3)

1.  Inspect the speedometer using check code 12 of the input/output check mode. (See INPUT/OUTPUT CHECK MODE OF INSTRUMENT CLUSTER[L3].)

Using the Input/Output Check Mode (AJ (3.0L Duratec))

1.  Inspect the speedometer using check code "GAGE" of the input/output check mode. (See INPUT/OUTPUT CHECK MODE OF INSTRUMENT CLUSTER[AJ (3.0L Duratec)].)

Using a Speedometer Tester

1.  Adjust the tire pressure to the specification.

2.  Using a speedometer tester, verify that the tester reading is as indicated in the table.

•  If the speedometer needle does not move or fluctuation of the speedometer needle is not within the specified range, inspect the PCM and the related wiring harnesses.
―  If the PCM and related wiring harnesses do not have any malfunction, replace the instrument cluster.

Tachometer

Using the Input/Output Check Mode (L3)

1.  Inspect the tachometer using check code 13 of the input/output check mode. (See INPUT/OUTPUT CHECK MODE OF INSTRUMENT CLUSTER[L3].)

Using the Input/Output Check Mode (AJ (3.0L Duratec))

1.  Inspect the tachometer using check code "GAGE" of the input/output check mode. (See INPUT/OUTPUT CHECK MODE OF INSTRUMENT CLUSTER[AJ (3.0L Duratec)].)

Using M-MDS

Caution
•  If the engine speed exceeds the allowable range, the engine could be damaged. Therefore, when inspecting the tachometer, do not allow the engine speed to exceed the allowable range indication on the tachometer.

1.  Connect the M-MDS to the DLC-2 (16-pin).

2.  Compare the data monitor item ISS_SRC (AJ (3.0L Duratec)) or RPM (L3) of PCM with the tachometer indication.

•  If the tachometer does not operate normally, inspect the PCM and related wiring harnesses.
―  If the PCM and related wiring harnesses do not have any malfunction, replace the instrument cluster.

Fuel Gauge (L3)

1.  Inspect the fuel gauge using check code 23 of the input/output check mode. (See INPUT/OUTPUT CHECK MODE OF INSTRUMENT CLUSTER[L3].)

Fuel Gauge (AJ (3.0L Duratec))

1.  Inspect the fuel gauge using check code "GAGE"of the input/output check mode. (See INPUT/OUTPUT CHECK MODE OF INSTRUMENT CLUSTER[AJ (3.0L Duratec)].)

Water Temperature Gauge (L3)

1.  Inspect the water temperature gauge using check code 25 of the input/output check mode. (See INPUT/OUTPUT CHECK MODE OF INSTRUMENT CLUSTER[L3].)

Water Temperature Gauge (AJ (3.0L Duratec))

1.  Inspect the water temperature gauge using check code "GAGE" of the input/output check mode. (See INPUT/OUTPUT CHECK MODE OF INSTRUMENT CLUSTER[AJ (3.0L Duratec)].)
