DTC P0443

Purge solenoid valve control circuit malfunction

DETECTION CONDITION

• The PCM monitors that the purge solenoid valve control circuit signal at PCM terminal 56 (R.H.D.) /C-34 (L.H.D.). If the PCM detects that the signal moves outside minimum or maximum allowance calibrated parameters for specified purge duty cycle by PCM commanded, the PCM determines that the purge solenoid valve control circuit malfunction.

POSSIBLE CAUSE

• Open circuit in wiring between purge solenoid valve terminal 1 and main relay terminal 87
• Short to GND in purge solenoid valve terminal 2 and PCM terminal 56 (R.H.D.) /C-34 (L.H.D.)
• Damaged purge solenoid valve
• Open circuit in wiring between purge solenoid valve terminal 2 and PCM terminal 56 (R.H.D.) /C-34 (L.H.D.)
• Short to power supply circuit in wiring between purge solenoid valve terminal 2 and PCM terminal 56 (R.H.D.) /C-34 (L.H.D.)
• Damaged PCM

Diagnostic procedure

STEP

INSPECTION

ACTION

1
VERIFY FREEZE FRAME DATA HAS BEEN RECORDED
• Has FREEZE FRAME DATA been recorded?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Record the FREEZE FRAME DATA on the repair order, then go to next step.
2
VERIFY REPAIR INFORMATION AVAILABILITY
• Verify related service repair information availability.
• Is any related repair information available?
Yes
Perform repair or diagnosis according to the available repair information. If the vehicle is not repaired, go to next step.
No
Go to the next step.
3
INDETIFY TRIGGER DTC FOR FEEZE FRAME DATA
• Is DTC P0443 on FREEZE FRAME DATA?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Go to FREEZE FRAME DATA DTC inspection.
4
INSPECT PURGE SOLENOID VALVE CIRCUIT FOR INTERMITTENT FAILURE
• Rerun KOEO, KOER self test and Continuous Memory DTCs.
• Is DTC P0443 present in Continuous Memory self test only?
Yes
Intermittent concern exists, go to Intermittent Troubleshooting Procedure.
No
Go to the next step.
5
CHECK POWER SUPPLY VOLTAGE TO PURGE SOLENOID VALVE CIRCUIT
• Turn the ignition switch to OFF.
• Disconnect purge solenoid valve.
• Turn the ignition switch to ON.
• Measure voltage between purge solenoid valve terminal 1 at harness side connector and battery negative post.
• Is voltage greater than 10.5 V?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Repair open circuit, then go to Step 10.
6
CHECK PURGE SOLENOID VALVE RESISTANCE
Note
• Purge solenoid valve resistance reading must be taken with engine cooled down.
• Disconnect purge solenoid valve.
• Measure purge solenoid valve resistance.
• Is resistance 30-38 ohms?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Replace purge solenoid valve, then go to Step 10.
7
CHECK PURGE SOLENOID VALVE CONTROL CIRCUIT FOR OPEN IN HARNESS
• Disconnect PCM.
• Measure the resistance between PCM terminal 56 (R.H.D.) /C-34 (L.H.D.) and purge solenoid valve terminal 2 at harness side connector.
• Is resistance less than 5.0 ohms?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Repair open circuit, then go to Step 10.
8
CHECK PURGE SOLENOID VALVE CONTROL CIRCUIT FOR SHORT TO GND IN WIRING
• Measure resistance between purge solenoid valve terminal 2 at harness side connector and battery negative post.
• Is resistance greater than 10,000 ohms?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Repair short to GND, then go to Step 10.
9
CHECK PURGE SOLENOID VALVE CONTROL CIRCUIT FOR SHORT TO POWER IN HARNESS
• Turn the ignition switch to ON.
• Measure voltage between purge solenoid valve terminal 2 at harness side connector and battery negative post.
• Is voltage greater than 10.5 V?
Yes
Repair short to power circuit, then go to the next step.
No
Replace PCM, then go to the next step.
10
VERIFY TROUBLESHOOTING OF DTC P0443 COMPLETED
• Make sure to reconnect all disconnected connectors.
• Clear the DTC from the PCM memory using the WDS or equivalent.
• Perform KOEO/KOER self test.
• Is the PENDING CODE same DTC present?
Yes
Replace PCM, then go to next step.
No
Go to the next step.
11
VERIFY AFTER SERVICE PRECAUTION
• Perform "AFTER SERVICE PRECAUTION".
• Is there any DTC present?
Yes
Go to applicable DTC inspection.
No
Troubleshooting completed.
