11	Shift concern: no first gear engagement in higher gear (D range)
POSSIBLE CAUSE	• Powertrain control system malfunction • Internal or external shift linkage malfunction • Control valve body malfunction • Seals malfunction • Direct clutch malfunction 2/4 band and servo malfunction


STEP	INSPECTION		ACTION
1	Powertrain control system • Are there any malfunctions with the following? - Electrical input/output - Vehicle wiring harness - PCM - Shift solenoid No.1 (SS1), Shift solenoid No.2 (SS2) - Transaxle range (TR) switch - O/D OFF switch	Yes	Perform OBD test Perform DTC troubleshooting (See AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE ON-BOARD DIAGNOSTIC FUNCTION [LA4AX-EL (CD4E)].)
1		No	Go to the next step
2	Internal or external shift linkages • Do any of the following malfunctions exist? - Damage - Misadjustment - Misassembly (See SELECTOR LEVER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)	Yes	Service if necessary After servicing linkage, verify that the TR switch is properly adjusted (See TRANSAXLE RANGE (TR) SWITCH INSPECTION [LA4AX-EL (CD4E)].)
2		No	Go to the next step
3	Control valve body • Do any of the following malfunctions exist? - Bolts are not tightened to the specification - Gaskets are damaged - Solenoid regulator valve, shift valves are stuck, damaged, or misassembled - Solenoid filter gasket is damaged, or misassembled - Hydraulic passages are damaged - SS1, SS2 solenoid malfunction	Yes	Service if necessary
3		No	Go to the next step
4	Mechanical • Do any of the following malfunctions exist? - Seals, clutches are damaged or worn - Direct clutch, 2/4 band, 2/4 servo are damaged or stuck on	Yes	Service if necessary
		No	Refer to the appropriate shift position for further diagnosis
		No
5	• Verify the test results. - If normal, return to the diagnostic index to service any additional symptoms. - If the malfunction remains, inspect the related Service Bulletins and/or On-line Repair Information and perform repair or diagnosis. • If the vehicle is repaired, troubleshooting is completed. • If the vehicle is not repaired or additional diagnostic information is not available, replace the PCM.
