1. Verify that the starter operates only when the ignition switch is turned to the START position with the selector lever in P or N position.
2. Verify that the back-up lights illuminate when shifted to the R position with the ignition switch in the ON position.
3. Verify that the positions of the selector lever and the indicator match.
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Remove the battery and battery tray. (See BATTERY REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [YF (2.0L Zetec)].) (See BATTERY REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [L3, AJ (3.0L Duratec)].)
3. Disconnect the crankcase vent hose and MAF sensor connector.
4. Remove the air hose and air cleaner cover.
5. Remove the air cleaner component.
6. Remove the thermostat housing. (See THERMOSTAT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [YF (2.0L Zetec)].) (See THERMOSTAT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [AJ (3.0L Duratec)].)
7. Disconnect the TR switch connector.
8. Measure the continuity and resistance between the following terminals.
Standard value
9. Remeasure the continuity and resistance between the terminals.
10. Connect the TR switch connector.
11. Install the thermostat housing. (See THERMOSTAT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [YF (2.0L Zetec)].) (See THERMOSTAT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [AJ (3.0L Duratec)].)
12. Install the air cleaner component.
13. Install the air hose and air cleaner cover.
14. Connect the crankcase vent hose and MAF sensor connector.
15. Verify that there is no blockage or kinks, and the vent hose routing is correct.
16. Install the battery and battery tray. (See BATTERY REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [YF (2.0L Zetec)].) (See BATTERY REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [L3, AJ (3.0L Duratec)].)
17. Connect the negative battery cable.
