POSSIBLE CAUSE

• ATF
• Improper pressure
• Internal or external shift linkage malfunction
• Control valve body malfunction
• Oil filter and seal component malfunction
• Oil pump malfunction
• Forward clutch component malfunction
• Reverse clutch component malfunction
• Low/reverse clutch component malfunction
• Forward/coasting/direct (F/C/D) clutch cylinder component malfunction

Improper pressure
• Is the line pressure lower than normal?
Yes
Inspect the following components: control valve body, oil pump, oil filter and seal component, recirculating seal, clutch components

Internal or external shift linkages
• Do any of the following malfunctions exist?
- Damage
- Misadjustment
- Misassembly
(See SELECTOR LEVER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

Control valve body
• Do any of the following malfunctions exist?
- Bolts are not tightened to the specification
- Gaskets are damaged
- Manual valve, main regulator valve, or low/reverse modulator regulator valve is stuck, damaged, or misassembled
- Separator plates are damaged
- Pressure tap plate/gasket leaks, damaged, or misassembled

Oil filter and seal component
• Do any of the following malfunctions exist?
- Filter/seal is damaged, or plugged
- Recirculating Seal is damaged or out of position

Service if necessary

Oil pump
• Do any of the following malfunctions exist?
- Bolts are not tightened to the specification
- Gaskets are damaged
- Porosity/cross leaks and/or the ball plug is missing, leaking, or passage blockage
- Oil pump support seal rings, #3 and #4 (Forward), or #6 and #7 (Reverse), are damaged
- Oil pump gear/pocket is damaged
- Separator plate is damaged

Forward clutch component (Forward only)
• Do any of the following malfunctions exist?
- Seals or piston are damaged
- The ball is damaged, missing, or improperly seated
- Friction elements are damaged, worn, or there is excessive end clearance

Reverse clutch component (Reverse only)
• Do any of the following malfunctions exist?
- Seals or piston are damaged
- The check ball is damaged
- Friction elements are damaged, worn
- Return spring is worn or damaged
- Piston bore is damaged
- Excessive clutch pack end clearance

Low/reverse clutch component (Reverse only)
• Do any of the following malfunctions exist?
- Piston or seals are damaged
- Friction elements are damaged or worn
- Return spring is damaged
- Piston bore is damaged
- Excessive clutch pack end clearance

Forward/coasting/direct (F/C/D) clutch cylinder component
• Do any of the following malfunctions exist?
- Reverse Seal Ring is damaged or missing
- Cylinder is damaged or leaking

The problem is resolved

• Verify the test results.
- If normal, return to the diagnostic index to service any additional symptoms.
- If the malfunction remains, inspect the related Service Bulletins and/or On-line Repair Information and perform repair or diagnosis.
• If the vehicle is repaired, troubleshooting is completed.
• If the vehicle is not repaired or additional diagnostic information is not available, replace the PCM.
