STEERING WHEEL (NOT WITH INTEGRATED AIR BAG MODULE) AND COLUMN REMOVAL/INSTALLATION

Warning
• Be sure to remove the air bag module in correct order since an air bag module removal involves a risk of sudden deployment of the SRS air bag system. (See DRIVER-SIDE AIR BAG MODULE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

1. Remove the footrest.

2. Remove the set plate installation nuts and slide the set plate.

3. Remove in the order shown in the figure.

4. Install in the reverse order of removal.

Steering Wheel Removal Note

1. Set the wheels in the straight-ahead position.

2. Remove the steering wheel using any commercially available puller.

Key Cylinder Set Removal Note

1. Make a groove in the heads of the set bolts using a chisel.

2. Remove the key cylinder from the energy absorber shaft using a flathead screwdriver.

Cylinder Outer Component Removal Note

Note
• Replace the cylinder outer component and coil.

1. Turn the ignition key to the ACC position.

2. While pressing the button, withdraw the cylinder outer component.

Key Cylinder Set Installation Note

1. Temporarily align the key cylinder on the energy absorber shaft groove.

2. Insert the ignition key into the key cylinder and verify the steering lock operation.

3. Tighten new set bolts until the heads break off.

Steering Shaft Installation Note

Caution
• Do not apply an excessive shock in the axial direction of the shaft.
Otherwise, the energy absorber function may not operate correctly during collision.

1. Temporarily tighten the bolt C.

2. Temporarily tighten the bolts A and B.

3. Tighten the bolt A completely.

4. Release the tilt lever.

5. Tighten the bolt B completely.

6. Tighten the bolt C completely.

7. Lock the tilt lever.

8. Tighten the steering shaft and universal joint to the specified torque.

Steering Wheel Installation Note

1. Adjust the clock spring.

2. Set the wheels in the straight-ahead position and install the steering wheel.
