1. Remove the steering gear and linkage. (See STEERING GEAR AND LINKAGE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION (L.H.D.).)(See STEERING GEAR AND LINKAGE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [L3](R.H.D.).) (See STEERING GEAR AND LINKAGE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [YF (2.0 L Zetec), AJ (3.0 L Duratec)](R.H.D.).)
2. Disassemble in the order indicated in the table.
3. As an assembly reference, place alignment marks on the threads of the tie-rod end and tie rod.
4. Remove the nuts of the tie-rod end and tie rod.
5. Remove the return pipe and oil pipe.
6. After removing the boot clamp and boot band, remove the boot.
7. Raise the washer crimp on the tie rod installation part.
8. Secure the steering rack teeth using the vise with a copper plate or a piece of clean rag.
9. Using the SST, remove the tie rod.
10. Remove the washer.
11. Using the SSTs, remove the locknut (adjusting cover) and adjusting cover.
12. Remove the yoke spring and support yoke.
13. Remove the housing cover.
14. To prevent the oil seal damage, temporarily install the tie rod, then remove the locknut (housing cover).
15. Remove the temporarily installed tie rod.
16. Remove the bolt and valve housing component.
17. Remove the pinion shaft component by tapping the pinion shaft head using a plastic hammer.
18. Remove the oil seal (pinion shaft).
19. Using the SST, remove the upper bearing and oil seal (valve housing) from the valve housing component.
20. Remove the seal ring from the pinion shaft component.
21. Remove the clip while pinching both ends of the clip using long-nose pliers as shown in the figure.
22. Using a snap ring plier, withdraw the rack stopper.
23. Install the SST to the rack end (gear housing side) and withdraw the rack housing from the steering rack component.
24. Remove the SST, rack bushing, and oil seal (gear housing) from the steering rack component.
25. Remove the oil seal (rack bushing) and O-ring from the rack bushing.
26. Using the SST and a hammer, remove the lower bearing.
27. Press the mounting bushing out from the gear housing using the SSTs and a press.
