Work on glass panes
^ The use of approved materials and tools is absolutely necessary for proper repair because the material characteristics of the recommended products influence the work results and working time.
^ When working on the glued vehicle windows wear sturdy gloves and eye protection to prevent injuries from cutting and splinters.
^ Adhesive bonds are a part of the self-supporting body. Always perform work on bonded windows with particular care.
^ Following fire damage, check adhesive seams and replace if required because the adhesive can be damaged by high heat.
Repair of glass panes
^ Repair of windshields is permissible under the following conditions:
- It is only permissible to repair damage to the outer surface of the windshield.
- The inner surface and plastic foil should not be damaged in any form.
- Ensure that moisture has not penetrated into the damaged point (seal damaged point immediately after damage with transparent adhesive tape and repair it as soon as possible).
- The crater at the impact point should not exceed a diameter of 5 mm.
- Cracks extending radially from the impact point should not be longer than 50 mm. They should not end at the glue bead and never reach to the outer edge of the window.
- This repair method can be used only when the damaged point is outside the long-range viewing field of the driver.
- The resin must be UV-resistant.
- The area to be repaired must be clean, free of grease and dry.
Replace windows
^ Use fabric adhesive tape in the repair area in order to protect the paint. - If the paint is damaged when replacing the windows, clean damaged points and treat with anticorrosion agents. Then coat repair point with paint (see paint repair guidelines). When cleaned and primed never touch bonding surfaces.
^ Before applying the glue to painted sheet metal, it is necessary to clean the gluing point and treat it with a primer (bonding agent). Any remaining glue residues should not be removed completely, but rather a thickness of 1 to 2 mm left standing. Smooth glue residues to the required remaining height only immediately before installing.
^ Always observe the curing time for the glue to ensure that the bead of glue achieves the full strength. Before closing the doors roll down the moving windows slightly so that window does not lift off of glue bead due to air pressure.
^ The vehicle should only be driven after replacing glued windows and glass roofs by observing the curing time of the adhesive (observe manufacturer's specifications).
