Engine Code Identification

To identify an engine by the manufacturer's code, follow the four steps designated by the numbered blocks.






VIN PLATE LOCATION:

On left front pillar post visible through windshield.






(1) MODEL YEAR IDENTIFICATION:

Seventh character of VIN., first character of emissions control label.

1985 - F
1984 - E
1983 - D
1982 - C

(2) ENGINE CODE LOCATION:


First 6 characters of engine number on plate attached to upper left side of engine block of 4-, 5- and pre-1986 6-cylinder engines. 1986-90 6-cylinder on right side of engine block next to engine mount. 8-cylinder engines on top of crankcase behind the left cylinder head.
