SUBJECT: REPLACEMENT OF ELECTRONIC CONTROL UNITS AFTER ACCIDENT REPAIR ALL MODELS

An electronic control unit does not require replacement after an accident unless one or more of the following conditions exist:

1. The housing is visibly damaged or deformed.

2. The control unit's mounting surface or console is deformed, even though exterior damage of the control unit itself is not evident.

3. The plug connection is damaged or corroded as a result of moisture.

4. A functions test or self-diagnosis indicates a malfunction of the control unit.

If electronic components (e.g. ABS control unit) are removed during repair and later reinstalled, they must be checked for proper function according to respective test procedures.
