Engine Test

In case of engine running or performance complaints where the cause cannot be readily determined, the following Engine Test should be performed.

Test Values

Idle Speed and On-Off Ratio:

1) Engine at operating temperature, shift lever in position "P" or "N" and all accessories turned off.

Ignition Timing:

1) Adjust with engine at operating temperature. Vacuum retard is cancelled above 50°C (122°F) engine temperature.

Voltage at Ignition Coil (TSZ 8z)
Terminal 15 (terminal 5 on diagnostic socket) to ground -- Battery Voltage
Terminal 1 to 15 (terminal 4 to 5 on diagnostic socket) -- OV

Special Tools
Lambda closed loop tester -- 909 589 00 21 00

Conventional Tools
Engine diagnostic tester -- e.g. Sun Electric
Digital multimeter -- e.g. Sun Electric DMM-5
Tachometer -- e.g. Sun Electric
