Distributor: Description and Operation

Distributor Assembly:

The ignition distributor's only function is to conduct high voltage from the coil through the ignition rotor to the proper ignition wire located on the distributor. It consists of the resistor rotor, the distributor cap and insulating cover (between the timing cover and ignition rotor). It is very flat and is mounted at the front of the engine. Each high tension terminal on the distributor cap incorporates a 1K ohm suppression resistor. The rotor is mounted on an adaptor which is driven by the camshaft.
