Checking Compressor Oil Level

6 CYLINDER AXIAL COMPRESSOR

Models with this compressor allow oil level to be checked with compressor in installed position. Check oil level after replacement of components, prior to refilling system or when refrigerant has been lost using the following procedure:
1. Discharge system and allow several minutes to allow refrigerant to boil from oil.
2. Loosen oil check plug on side of compressor, then slowly remove plug.
3. Oil level should be even with plug opening.
4. Add oil, if required, until oil flows from opening, then install plug and tighten securely.
5. Evacuate and recharge system, then check for leaks.

4 CYLINDER RADIAL COMPRESSOR

No provision is made for checking oil level on these vehicles and oil is added according to component(s) being replaced. Refer to OIL CHARGE.
