Note: Mercedes Benz does not rely on visual markings on the camshafts. Correct crankshaft to camshaft timing is achieved using mechanical stops and alignment pins (1). Refer to Camshaft, Engine - Testing and Inspection - Procedures Testing and Inspection

CAUTION! Incorrect setting/adjustment without the use of special tools could damage or break the camshafts. Valves could also be bent through contact with the piston crowns. Always note installation instructions and use specified special tools, procedures, and sequences.
