Cylinder Head Torque & Sequence

Specifications

1st stage: 55 Nm
2nd stage: additional 9O° tightening angle
3rd stage: additional 9O° tightening angle.

Length of cylinder head bolts:
New: 160 mm
Maximum: 163.5 mm

CAUTION: The cylinder head gasket is not watertight until the engine has reached its normal operating temperature and the gasket has swollen For this reason, do not pressure test the cooling system until the engine has reached normal operating temperatures.

Examining

Examine the length (L) of cylinder head bolts as shown in the illustration, bolt length should not exceed 163.5 mm.

NOTE: The cylinder head bolts are subjected to a certain stretch each time they are tightened. If the maximum length (L) is exceeded, the bolts should be replaced.

Tightening

Clean the threads of cylinder head bolts and threaded holes in crankcase.

CAUTION: Fluids forced into the threaded holes may damage the crankcase.

Oil (with engine oil) the threads of cylinder head bolts and contact surfaces of washers
Tighten the cylinder head bolts (engine cold) from the center out in a X pattern in stages in the order of the illustration, starting with bolt 1.
