ESP Indicator Lamp Illuminated After Replacement of ESP Control Unit
If after the replacement of an ESP control unit you encounter that the ESP indicator lamp is illuminated within the instrument cluster and fault code C1042-002 [The coding of control modules EAM and ESP are implausible] is present, perform the following to resolve.
After the ESP control unit is replaced, the steering ratio must be coded as variable or fixed in the new ESP control unit using STAR Diagnosis under the following path: Control Units --> Chassis --> Traction System ABS, ASR, ETS, ESP --> Control Unit Adaptations. It is possible that the ESP control module loses this coding after an ignition cycle. As such, change the coding for the steering ratio in the Extended Activity Module control unit first and then in the ESP control unit.
