GF82.70-P-0004SK Universal Portable CTEL Interface (UPCI), Function
- with CODE (386) Preinstallation for telephone "Handy", UPCI system
- with CODE (388) Telephone "Handy", UPCI system
- with CODE (494) USA version

Function requirements:
^ No overvoltage or undervoltage
^ Enabled Subscriber identification module (SIM) card
^ Correct personal identification number (PIN) entry and successful log-in

With the Universal Portable CTEL Interface (UPCI) system, all calls are made with the portable CTEL (A34/6) via the handsfree system.

With the UPCI system it is possible to operate different portable CTELs (A34/6) such as Nokia, Siemens or Motorola in the vehicle. Only the UPCI portable CTEL holder (Universal Portable CTEL Interface) (A34/15) has to be replaced to do this.

The UPCI system consists of the following components:
^ Radio (A2), with code (523) MB Audio 20 radio
^ Radio and navigation unit (A2/56), with code (525) MB Audio 50 APS radio
^ COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3), with code (527) COMAND APS with single DVD drive (with navigation) or with code (530) COMAND APS USA (with navigation system)
^ Telephone/portable CTEL/STH radio remote control antenna splitter (A2/53)
^ Rod antenna (A28)
^ CTEL compensator (A28/3)
^ Portable CTEL (A34/6)
^ UPCI Portable CTEL holder (Universal Portable CTEL Interface) (A34/15)
^ Hands-free system microphone group (B25)
^ Audio gateway control unit (N93/1)
^ Universal Portable CTEL Interface (UPCI [UHI]) control unit (N123/1)

The portable CTEL (A34/6) is connected to the Media Oriented System Transport (MOST) of the vehicle via the UPCI portable CTEL holder (Universal Portable CTEL Interface) (A34/15).

The UPCI system contains the following functions:
^ Sets up telephone connections in hands-free mode.
^ Display call numbers and caller ID.
^ Telephone numbers stored on the portable CTEL (A34/6) are displayed in the upper multifunction display (A1p13) of the instrument cluster (A1)
^ W@P, on the portable CTEL only (A34/6) up to 31.05.05
^ MB-Net up to 31.05.05
^ e-mail up to 31.05.05
^ Short Message Service (SMS)

The deadlines for the functions "W@P", "MB-Net", and "e- mail" cannot be exactly limited to 31.05.05. The functions "W@P", "MB-Net", and "e-mail" will be omitted as they are phased into production.

The UPCI system is manually activated using the On/Off button on the portable CTEL (A34/6), the activation takes place automatically when circuit 15 is activated via the MOST by means of a wake-up pulse by one of the listed audio sources.
The UPCI system is manually deactivated using the On/Off button on the portable CTEL (A34/6), or the deactivation takes place automatically after the run-on time that can be set individually on the portable CTEL (A34/6).
The telephone calls can be accepted or terminated by doing the following:
^ By pressing the "Accept call" button on the portable CTEL (A34/6).
^ Via the accept/terminate phone call button (S111s3) at the multifunction steering wheel (MFL)
^ By pressing the "Accept phone call" control button at the radio (A2) with code (523) MB Audio 20 radio
^ By pressing the "Accept phone call" control button at the radio and navigation unit (A2/56) with code (525) MB Audio 50 APS radio
^ By pressing the "Accept phone call" control button at the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) with code (527) COMAND APS with single DVD drive (with navigation) or with code (530) COMAND APS USA (with navigation system).

The voice input takes place via the hands-free system microphone group (B25), and the voice output takes place via the audio speakers that are installed in each case. The portable CTEL (A34/6) must be in the UPCI portable CTEL holder (Universal Portable CTEL Interface) (A34/15) to do this.

A range of indicators notifying the user of the operating condition (e.g. "ENTER PIN") of the portable CTEL (A34/6) appear in the displays of the following components:
^ Portable CTEL (A34/6)
^ Upper multifunction display (A1p13) in the instrument cluster (A1)
^ Radio (A2), with code (523) MB Audio 20 radio
^ Radio and navigation unit (A2/56), with code (525) MB Audio 50 APS radio
^ COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3), with code (527) COMAND APS with single DVD drive (with navigation) or with code (530) COMAND APS USA (with navigation system)

To ensure the maximum fidelity for the user via the hands-free system microphone group (B25), the audio sources activated via the audio device installed are automatically muted during a telephone conversation.

The volume of the hands-free system can be individually adjusted by the user using the portable CTEL (A34/6) or via the MFL using the + and - button, setting of specific functions and volume control (S111s1). The portable CTEL (A34/6) must be in the UPCI portable CTEL holder (Universal Portable CTEL Interface) (A34/15) to do this.
Furthermore, the UPCI system can be operated using the following buttons integrated in the MFL:
^ Scroll forward/back button (S110s1)
^ System select button (S110s3)
^ Pushbutton + and -, specific function setting and volume control (S111s1)
^ Accept/terminate phone call button (S111s3)

This is shown by a range of indicators on the displays of the following components notifying the user of the operating condition (e.g. "ENTER PIN") of the portable CTEL (A34/6) :
^ Portable CTEL (A34/6)
^ Upper multifunction display (A1p13) in the instrument cluster (A1)
^ Radio (A2), with code (523) MB Audio 20 radio
^ Radio and navigation unit (A2/56), with code (525) MB Audio 50 APS radio
^ COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3), with code (527) COMAND APS with single DVD drive (with navigation) or with code (530) COMAND APS USA (with navigation system)

The UPCI system is compatible with the D-net and the E-net, which is made possible via the installation of the E-net compensator (A28/3).
