General
The mobile phone system allows mobile phones operating with the Personal Digital Cellular (PDC), Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA), Wideband Code Division Multiple Access (WCDMA) and Freedom of Mobile Multimedia Access (FOMA) networks to be operated in the vehicle. The mobile phone system consists of the following subfunctions, which are described in separate documents:
^ Switching on and off characteristics
^ Establishing call and terminating call
^ Accepting calls, rejecting calls and toggling
^ Voice control system

The mobile phone system also includes the following subfunctions:
^ Address book
^ "Private Mode"
^ "Seamless Switch"
^ Toggling

The system is described using the portable CTEL separation point and the mobile phone connected to the mobile phone adapter cable as an example. Deviations from this are indicated with the symbol.

Address book
The user can manage all the contact data in the address book (view, edit, add, delete and create). The address book contains the address entries stored in the COMAND operating, display and controller unit.
In addition, data (names, vCards and standard numbers) can be loaded from the telephone book in the mobile phone into the address book in the COMAND operating, display and controller unit.
The data from the mobile phone telephone book is then permanently available.
Address entries can only be removed by deleting individual entries or by deleting the entire address book.

The Bluetooth interface of the mobile phone and the Bluetooth antenna (A2/91) can be used to transmit data from other external devices (e.g. PDA, laptop, etc.) into the address book. vCards can also be transferred to the address book from an SD card using the Secure Digital (SD) slot in the COMAND operating, display and controller unit. These data are then permanently available as address entries. Address-relevant mobile phone system applications can be directly started and supplied with the stored data over address book entries.
Address entries can contain the following:
- Names (surname and first name)
- Postal addresses (private or business)
- Telephone numbers (private, business, fixed line network, mobile or car)
- Company name
- Geo position (private or business)
- Notes

150 entries can be provided with voice commands (voice tags) for the voice control system (VCS). The address entries stored in the address book in the COMAND operating, display and controller unit and the data loaded from the mobile phone are displayed.

With a mobile phone operated with Bluetooth, read access to the telephone book in the mobile phone is possible when the mobile phone supports the Bluetooth Profile Phonebook Access Profile (PBAP).

"Private Mode"
When in "Private mode", the user can make a telephone call without other vehicle occupants being able to hear the conversation. This is possible by separating the mobile phone from the adapter cable during a telephone call in the hands-free mode and therefore separating it from the communication control unit.

With a mobile phone operated with Bluetooth, the phone call is completed in the "Private mode" if the mobile phone supports the "Private mode" and the "Private mode" is activated.

"Seamless Switch"
"Seamless switch" means either that an existing call on the mobile phone is not terminated when the phone is disconnected from the adapter cable or that an existing call is forwarded to the COMAND operating, display and controller unit when the mobile phone is connected to the adapter cable.

Toggling
The user can switch back and forth between telephone calls with 2 people. While the user talks to one person on the line, the connection to the other is put on hold. However, voice transmission is interrupted.
