- Communication control unit
- Direct line

With a mobile phone operating with Bluetooth, the control signals from the buttons on the mobile phone are processed internally. They are not forwarded to the COMAND operating, display and controller unit. The telephone call is completed in the "Private mode" when the mobile phone supports the "Private mode" and "Private mode" is activated.

Function sequence, establish call over telephone buttons or keypad on COMAND operating, display and controller unit
After dialing the telephone number over the telephone buttons on the COMAND operating, display and controller unit and pressing the "Accept phone call" button or by selecting the telephone function over the keypad on the COMAND operating, display and controller unit and then activating the "TRANSMIT" function, the telephone call is completed in the hands-free mode. The telephone function can be selected with the menu item "ComTEL/Telephone"; this can be accomplished with the aid of the "TEL" telephone button on the COMAND operating, display and controller unit and is then indicated on the display of the COMAND operating, display and controller unit.

The following ways of dialing a telephone number are available to the user here:
- Enter telephone number with keypad on COMAND operating, display and controller unit with the speller offered
- Search for the telephone number using the "Name" menu entry in the address book
- Search for the telephone number using the "Call lists" menu entry in the call lists (accepted, dialed)

The name of the person who you wish to call can be selected in the address book and the call lists by scrolling up and down. The control signals from the telephone buttons or the keypad on the COMAND operating, display and controller unit are processed internally. The menu item is also indicated internally on the display of the COMAND operating, display and controller unit.

Function sequence, establish call over multifunction steering wheel button groups
The address book in the COMAND operating, display and controller unit or the telephone book in the mobile phone can be selected with the system selection (S110s3) button over the selection menu in the instrument cluster (A1).
The name of the person to be called can be selected by scrolling forward and backward in the COMAND operating, display and controller unit address book or in the telephone book in the telephone book of the mobile phone using the forward- and back S110s1) buttons.
The accept/terminate phone call button (S111s3) can be used to establish the telephone call in the hands-free system.

The control signals from the multifunction steering wheel button group are forwarded to the COMAND operating, display and controller unit over the following components:
- Steering LIN
- Steering column tube module (N80)
- Interior CAN

Display in the instrument cluster is accomplished by the COMAND operating, display and controller unit over the interior CAN.

Function sequence, establish call over voice control system
Voice control of the VCS [SBS] is activated by pressing the VCS [SBS] switch (S93/2) on the steering column tube module. The control signal from the VCS [SBS] switch is forwarded to the COMAND operating, display and controller unit over the following components:
- Direct line
- Steering column tube module
- Interior CAN

A signal tone is emitted after the voice control system has been activated.
The signal tone is transmitted by the COMAND operating, display and controller unit for vehicles with code (810) Sound System over the Media Oriented System Transport (MOST) to the Sound System amplifier (N40/3).

From there, the signal tone is transmitted to the following speakers over direct lines:
- Left door speaker group (H4/1)
- Right door speaker group (H4/2)
- Left rear speaker (H4/7)
- Right rear speaker (H4/8)
- Center cockpit speaker (centerfill) (H4/27)
- Left door tweeter (H4/33)
- Right door tweeter (H4/34)
- Left rear surround speaker (H4/54)
- Right rear surround speaker (H4/57)

Now different voice commands can be used to search and select a telephone number.
The voice commands are received by the hands-free system microphone group (B25) and transferred to the COMAND operating, display and controller unit over a direct line.
The voice control of the voice control system (VCS) is used to establish the telephone call in the hands-free mode.

The individual voice commands are listed in the "Linguatronic operator's manual".

On vehicles except code (810) Sound system, the signal tone is transmitted by the COMAND operating, display and controller unit via direct lines to the following speakers:
- Left door speaker group
- Right door speaker group
- Left rear speaker
- Right rear speaker
- Center cockpit speaker (centerfill)
- Left door tweeter
- Right door tweeter

Function sequence, establish call over navigation mode
If a telephone number is stored for a point of interest (POI), the user can dial it using the keypad on the COMAND operating, display and controller unit or by voice control on the VCS [SBS]. The telephone call is then established in the hands-free mode. The control signals from the keypad on the COMAND operating, display and controller unit are processed internally.

The signals are transferred from the VCS [SBS] to the COMAND operating, display and controller unit over the same path as for "Function sequence, establish telephone call over VCS [SBS]".

Function sequence, establish call for phone call in hands-free mode
After the telephone call is established, the COMAND operating, display and controller unit transmits and receives the mobile phone signals and data over the following path:
- Direct line
- Communication control unit
- Direct line
- Cell phone separation point
- Direct line
- Left antenna amplifier module (A2/64)
- Direct line
- Rod antenna (A28)

The voice input in the hands-free mode is received by the handsfree system microphone group and transferred to the COMAND operating, display and controller unit over a direct line.

On vehicles with code (810) Sound system, the voice output is transferred from the COMAND operating, display and controller unit, over direct lines, to the following speakers:
- Left door speaker group
- Right door speaker group
- Left rear speaker
- Right rear speaker
- Center cockpit speaker (centerfill)
- Left door tweeter
- Right door tweeter
- Left rear surround speaker
- Right rear surround speaker

On vehicles except code (810) Sound system, the voice output is transmitted from the COMAND operating, display and controller unit, over direct lines, to the following speakers:
- Left door speaker group
- Right door speaker group
- Left rear speaker
- Right rear speaker
- Center cockpit speaker (centerfill)
- Left door tweeter
- Right door tweeter

With a mobile phone operated with Bluetooth, the COMAND operating, display and controller unit transmits or receives the mobile phone signals or data over the Bluetooth antenna (A2/91) and the mobile phone antenna, except when the telephone call is established using the mobile phone buttons. In the event of establishing a telephone call using the mobile phone buttons, the mobile phone transmits or receives the mobile phone signals or data over the mobile phone antenna. Voice input takes place using the microphone integrated in the mobile phone and voice output is emitted over the speakers integrated into the mobile phone ("private mode").

In the "Private mode" the user can make a call without other passengers in the vehicle being able to participate in the conversation when the mobile phone supports the "Private mode" and the "Private mode" is activated.

Function sequence, terminate call over mobile phone buttons
Pressing the "QUIT" button on the mobile phone terminates the telephone call. The control signals from the mobile phone buttons are internally processed and forwarded to the COMAND operating, display and controller unit over the following path:
- Adapter cable
- Cell phone separation point

- Direct line

With a mobile phone operating with Bluetooth, the control signals from the buttons on the mobile phone are processed internally. They are not forwarded to the COMAND operating, display and controller unit.

Function sequence, terminate call over telephone buttons or keypad on COMAND operating, display and controller unit
The telephone call can be terminated by pressing the "QUIT" button on the COMAND operating, display and controller unit or activating the "QUIT" function in the "ComTEL/Telephone" menu item. The control signals from the telephone buttons or the keypad on the COMAND operating, display and controller unit are processed internally.

Function sequence, terminate call over multifunction steering wheel button groups
The accept/terminate phone call button terminates the telephone call. The control signals from the multifunction steering wheel button group are forwarded to the COMAND operating, display and controller unit over the following components:
- Steering LIN
- Steering column tube module
- Interior CAN

Function sequence, call termination
After completing a telephone call, the COMAND operating, display and controller unit discontinues transmission or reception of the mobile phone signals and data. This is accomplished internally in the COMAND operating, display and controller unit.

With a mobile phone operated with Bluetooth, the COMAND operating, display and controller unit discontinues transmission or reception of the mobile phone signals and data in an internal control unit procedure except when a call is terminated using the buttons on the mobile phone. When a telephone call is terminated using the mobile phone buttons, the mobile phone interrupts the transmission or reception of mobile phone signals or data. This process runs internally in the mobile phone.
