- with CODE (386) Preinstallation for telephone "Handy", UPCI system
- with CODE (388) Telephone "Handy", UPCI system

The Universal Portable CTEL Interface (UPCI [UHI]) control unit (N123/1) recognizes when a new, so-called Short Message Service (SMS) message has been received by the portable CTEL (A34/6) and transmits it to the display of one of the following activated audio sources where it is shown:
^ Radio (A2), with code (523) MB Audio 20 radio
^ Radio and navigation unit (A2/56), with code (525) MB Audio 50 APS radio
^ COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3), with code (527) COMAND APS with single DVD drive (with navigation) or with code (530) COMAND APS USA (with navigation system)

The SMS messages that are received and transmitted in the audio source that is installed in each case are sorted according to their status into the lists "read", "not read" and "sent". The user also has the option at any time to delete SMS messages that are no longer required.
The user can also write his/her own SMS messages and send them via the portable CTEL (A34/6). The parameters for sending the SMS message, such as the service provider no. or the memory time is supplied by the actual audio source that is installed. If no parameters are stored, the parameters of the particular portable CTEL (A34/6) are used. If errors occur while processing the SMS, e.g., no cellular mobile telephone network reception or the particular portable CTEL (A34/6) is not plugged in, this is indicated to the user by the UPCI system with a corresponding fault message in the form of a "POP-UP".
