The deadline for the electronic mail (e-mail) function cannot be exactly limited to 31.05.05. The e-mail function will be omitted as it is phased into production.

Function requirements:
^ The portable CTEL (A34/6) must be inserted into the UPCI [UHI] portable CTEL holder (Universal Handy Interface) (A34/15).
^ The portable CTEL (A34/6) and the radio (A2), with code (523) MB Audio 20 radio, the radio and navigation unit (A2/56), with code (525) MB Audio 50 APS radio, or the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3), with code (527) COMAND APS using single DVD drive (with navigation) or with code (530) COMAND APS USA (with navigation system) are activated.
^ The Personal Identification Number (PIN) is entered

^ The provider settings for the Post Office Protocol 3 (POP3) server (for receiving e-mails) and for the Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) server (for sending e-mails) have been made.

A POP3 server saves all incoming e-mails in an intermediate memory and does not transfer them until the user calls them up. If the automatic delete function is active, the intermediate memory for e-mails is not used.

Display location

SMTP, POP3, Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)

The TCP ensures that the data are transmitted without error between the sender and the receiver, while the IP packs the data in so-called datagrams, which contain, in addition to the actual useful data, control data such as the protocol version, the datagram size, the control total, the source and the target address.
