GF82.61-P-3011SK Route Calculation, Function
- with CODE (525) MB Audio 50 APS radio
- with CODE (527) COMAND APS with single DVD drive (with navigation)

The navigation processor of the radio and navigation unit (A2/56) with code (525) Audio 50 APS MB radio is integrated into the control unit. With the COMAND operating, display and controller unit (A40/3) with code (527a) COMAND APS (with navigation), the external navigation module is designated as navigation processor (N41/1).

With code (527a) COMAND APS (with navigation) the route is calculated and updated by the navigation processor (N41/1) once the destination has been entered. It can only be calculated within the digitized map area. The calculated route is a precondition for destination-oriented navigation.

Route calculation, function
The navigation processor (N41/1) calculates the trip route with the aid of the CD-ROM map data and the momentary position. During calculation it considers the roads and attributes (e.g. one-way streets) read in from the DVD-ROM map.

Selectable route calculations
^ Fastest route
^ Shortest route
^ Dynamic route

If "Dynamic route" is selected, traffic messages received via cell phone (D-net) are stored with the aid of an integral traffic data recorder and taken into account in the route calculation.

The route is then calculated with the optimum time, in a manner similar to the "Fastest route" option. Notification that the route has been recalculated taking traffic messages into consideration, is provided. For the route calculation, the following stretches can be blocked from the route calculation:
^ Avoid highway
^ Avoid ferry/car loading
^ Avoid toll road
^ Avoid tunnels

The navigation differentiates between:
^ Main and intermediate destinations of a trip (driven to directly)
^ Via destinations

Via destinations
The entry of a via destination always refers to the road network. All the streets available in this network can be selected as via destinations. The via-destinations are not driven to directly, i.e. the function is restricted to the freeway network.

The selection is always made via the map. Furthermore, control is possible from the operating unit, however also the input of a town or other index destinations can be carried out and then diverted on the map. With a via destination, the route calculation takes place to the next main destination taking the via point into consideration. The navigation processor (N41/1) creates a list of the streets and junctions to be driven to after the route has been calculated. This list of routes is drawn on for destination-oriented navigation. It may also be displayed by calling up the "Information" menu.

Route updating
If the driver deviates from the calculated route, a new route list is calculated by the navigation processor (N41/1).
When doing so, the current position and the direction of travel are taken into consideration. The new route is optimized accordingly.

Journeys outside of the digitalized map area
If the vehicle leaves the digitized DVD-ROM map range (e.g. driving in multilevel parking building), routes cannot be calculated or updated.

"OFF ROAD" appears on the display. Upon leaving the map boundary (e.g. foreign country), the message "OFF MAP" appears. Destinations that lie outside the digitized map area cannot be incorporated into the route calculation.
