GF82.61-P-4001SKJ Destination Guidance In Non-Digitalized Map Area, Function
- with CODE (498) Japan version

When traveling outside the digitized map area (e.g. company premises, multi-level car parks, country roads, etc.), but still within the Digital Versatile Disk (DVD)-ROM map boundary, the navigation processor of the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) switches to "Navigation in non-digitized map area". The message "OFF ROAD" appears on the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) display. If the vehicle is outside of the DVD-ROM map boundary (outside the country), the message "OFF MAP" is displayed. In both cases only basic position finding (dead reckoning) with correction by the Global Positioning System (GPS) takes place. Limited destination guidance takes place while only specifying:
^ Distance from the destination as the crow flies
^ Direction to the destination (as an arrow)

After reentering the digitized map area, the system automatically continues with "Destination guidance in digitized map area" . The GPS position is used to help determine the roads on which the vehicle could be located. During this process a slight delay in the route guidance may result.

In the event of the "OFF MAP" message, full navigation can be continued after inserting a corresponding foreign country DVD-ROM.

When driving in other "time zones" (with time delay and time changeover), time synchronization must take place between the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) and the instrument cluster (A1).
