GF82.85-P-2012SKU Navigation Mode, Function
- with CODE (530) COMAND APS USA (with navigation system)

The location of the vehicle and the direction and distance to the destination are determined with the aid of the navigation system (after entering the destination). Navigation to the destination then begins.

In order to read digital map data the navigation processor (N41/1) and the Digital Versatile Disk (DVD)-ROM drive are activated by pressing the "NAV" button on the operating unit of the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3).

The instruction "Please insert navigation DVD" appears on the display of the operating unit of the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3). This instruction is intended to ensure that the correct DVD is used. Audio CDs can also be played on the DVD-ROM drive.

Destination entry
The destination is entered menu-assisted on the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) and is processed by the navigation processor (N41/1). The following destination entry facilities are available:
^ Address
^ Destination memory
^ Destination with map
^ Special destinations (e.g. train station, airport)
^ Travel guide
^ Last destinations

Dynamic supplementation
This function is realized with the manual entry of the destination. While entering a destination the letters which are still missing are completed from an existing list. The supplemented characters have a black background. Deleting can be accomplished character by character.

Position finding
The COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) continuously calculates the location of the vehicle with the aid of the following methods:
^ Global positioning system (GPS) position finding
^ Basic position finding (dead reckoning)
^ Map-supported map matching

The navigation processor (N41/1) calculates the most likely position by constantly comparing the location results of these 3 methods.

Route calculation
The route is calculated in the navigation processor (N41/1) after destination input or automatically after a deviation from the proposed route. The calculated route is stored in the navigation processor (N41/1).

Route guidance
Navigation starts once the navigation processor (N41/1) has carried out the route calculation. 3 types of display can be selected for graphic navigation:
^ with map
^ with map and symbol display before turn-off points
^ symbol display only (route control symbols)

It is possible to change arbitrarily between 3 types of presentation. The navigation is also supported by voice output from the vehicle loudspeakers.
