AN82.61-P-0001-01VC Retrofit Wiring Harness
- with CODE (523) Radio MB Audio 20
- with CODE (533) Front and rear speakers -without radio-

1 Insert breaker point bracket (3) of red line (rt) into chamber 4 of black, 4-pin connector of ground wiring harness (2) for audio gateway control unit (N93/1).

Breaker point bracket (3) should catch audibly. The red line (rt) is the voltage supply for the audio gateway control unit (N93/1) and is located in the right footwell next to the audio gateway control unit (N93/1).

2 Connect blue/white line (bl/ws) of black, 4-pin connector of ground wiring harness (2) with a voltage distributor (11) to blue/white line (bl/ws) of branch-off line (10) of on-board wiring harness.

Branch-off line (10) is assigned to a brown/red (br/rt), a brown (br), a blue/white (bl/ws), a pink (rs), and a yellow (ge) line. The pink line (rs) is already connected with a voltage distributor (11).

3 Connect black, 4-pin connector to left connection of audio gateway control unit (N93/1) (see arrow).
4 Connect brown line (br) of black, 4-pin connector to ground (right footwell) (W15/1).

5 Connect lines that have identical color of new wiring harness (13) to black, 6-pin connector for audio gateway control unit (N93/1) with one voltage distributor (11) each at the lines of the branch-off line (10) of the on-board wiring harness.

The blue/white (bl/ws) and the pink (rs) line of the branch-off line (10) of the onboard wiring harness are already connected with a voltage distributor (11). The pink line (rs) of the new wiring harness (13) has to be connected with another voltage distributor (11) (wake-up line).

6 Connect black, 6-pin connector to audio gateway control unit (N93/1).

7 Connect black connector (17) of new adapter antenna line (14) to audio gateway control unit (N93/1).
8 Connect black plug of new adapter antenna line (14) with black, on-board antenna connector.

9 Remove insulation from branch-off line (17) of on-board wiring harness (7) until the left front door speaker group connector sleeve (+ signal) (Z28/5) and right front door speaker group connector sleeve (- signal) (Z28/8) is exposed.
10 Separate the two lines that lead from the vehicle interior to the left front door speaker group connector sleeve (+ signal) (Z28/5) and the right front door speaker group connector sleeve (- signal) (Z28/8) at the particular connector sleeves.

The lines have a line cross section of 0.75 mm2 and a line cross section of 1.5 mm2.
The left front door speaker group connector sleeve (+ signal) (Z28/5) and right front door speaker group connector sleeve (- signal) (Z28/8) with the remaining line is no longer required.

The left front door speaker group connector sleeve (+ signal) (Z28/5) is assigned to three pink lines (rs).
The right front door speaker group connector sleeve (- signal) (Z28/8) is assigned to three brown/white lines (br/ws).

11 Connect pink line (rs) with a line cross section of 0.75 mm2 with a voltage distributor (11) to the pink line (rs) of the new speaker wiring harness (15).

Pink line (rs) with a line cross section of 0.75 mm2 was connected to left front door speaker group connector sleeve (+ signal) (Z28/5). The new speaker wiring harness (15) has a black, 14-pin connector.

12 Connect brown/white line (br/ws) with the line cross section of 0.75 mm2 with a voltage distributor (11) to the brown/black line (br/sw) of the new speaker wiring harness (15).

Brown/white line (br/ws) with the line cross section of 0.75 mm2 was connected to right front door speaker group connector sleeve (- signal) (Z28/8).

Branch-off line (20) consists of a yellow (ge), brown/yellow (br/ ge), orange (or), and a brown (br) line; each of which is twisted in pairs. The have a line cross section of 0.75 mm2.
Branch-off line (20) will be routed rearward later in the right cable duct to the rear wall.

13 Compare line colors of remaining 8 lines of on-board wiring harness (7) to remaining 8 lines of black, 14-pin connector of new speaker wiring harness (15) (lines are twisted in pairs).

If the colors are not identical to the colors of the black, 14-pin connector, the connection has to be established via solder connector (12) as per variant 1.

Variant 1
Black, 14-pin connector On-board wiring harness

Cross section/color Cross section/color
Socket 1 2.5 mm2 blue WITH 2.5 mm2 red/white
Socket 2 2.5 mm2red/white WITH 2.5 mm2 blue
Socket 3 2.5 mm2 green WITH 2.5 mm2 red
Socket 4 2.5 mm2 brown/green WITH 2.5 mm2 black
Socket 7 1.5 mm2 pink WITH 1.5 mm2 pink
Socket 8 1.5 mm2 brown/pink WITH 1.5 mm2 brown/pink
Socket 13 1.5 mm2 white WITH 1.5 mm2 white
Socket 14 1.5 mm2 brown/white WITH 1.5 mm2 brown/ white

If the colors are identical to the colors of the black, 14-pin connector, the connection has to be established via solder connector (12) as per variant 2 .

Variant 2
Black, 14-pin connector On-board wiring harness

Cross section/color Cross section/color
Socket 1 2.5 mm2 blue WITH 2.5 mm2 blue
Socket 2 2.5 mm2red/white WITH 2.5 mm2 red/white
Socket 3 2.5 mm2 green WITH 2.5 mm2 green
Socket 4 2.5 mm2 brown/green WITH 2.5 mm2 brown/green
Socket 7 1.5 mm2 pink WITH 1.5 mm2 pink
Socket 8 1.5 mm2 brown/pink WITH 1.5 mm2 brown/pink
Socket 13 1.5 mm2 white WITH 1.5 mm2 white
Socket 14 1.5 mm2 brown/white WITH 1.5 mm2 brown/ white

14 Connect black, 14-pin connector of new speaker wiring harness (15) to audio gateway control unit (N93/1).
15 Route new speaker wiring harness (15) together with red line (rt) along existing lines at bracket (2) and attach with tie straps (see arrows).
16 Attach all retrofitted wiring harnesses with felt tape (18) on the floor.

17 Wind felt tape around all solder connections and crimp contacts.
18 Route all retrofitted wiring harnesses as per the picture on the center tunnel and in the right footwell (see arrows).

Ensure that the wiring harnesses are not routed in area (19), since this is where the footrest makes contact.

Component Identification:

19 Route branch-off line (20) of black, 14-pin connector of audio gateway control unit (N93/1) in right cable duct to right rear wall (see arrow).

Branch-off line (20) consists of an orange, a brown, a brown/ yellow, and a yellow line with a line cross section of 0.75 mm2 each.

20 Expose the four on-board speaker lines for the rear speakers from the wiring harness on the rear wall.

The lines have a line cross section of 0.75 mm2 and are twisted in pairs. Since different line colors were installed, they have to be checked.

The following color versions can be installed:
Variant 1: red/white twisted with blue, red twisted with black.
Variant 2: red/white twisted with blue, green twisted with green/brown.

21 Separate the four on-board speaker lines.
22 Connect the four on-board speaker lines (22), which are routed upward to the rear speakers, to one voltage distributor (11) each using the new lines of the branch-off line (20).

The on-board speaker lines (22) have to be connected, depending on the line colors, as per variant 1 or variant 2 .

23 Fit on-board speaker lines (21) that are routed downward into the cable duct with one solder connector (12) each, wind felt tape around, and strap down in right cable duct.
