GF82.60-P-2001SKJ Radio Mode, Function
- with CODE (498) Japan version

The rod antenna (A28) is a combined radio and telephone antenna and receives high-frequency signals in the ultra-short wave (FM) and medium wave (MW) range. The left antenna amplifier module (A2/64) filters the radio frequency band frequencies from the high-frequency signals which are received, and amplifies these. The amplified signals are then transmitted by the left antenna amplifier module (A2/64) via a coaxial line to the radio receiver in the audio gateway control unit (N93/1). The radio receiver in the audio gateway control unit (N93/1) demodulates the high-frequency signals, i.e. it separates the useful information (audible frequencies) from the carrier signal (inaudible frequencies). The demodulated audio signals are amplified by the sound amplifier that is integrated in the audio gateway control unit (N93/1) (with code (810) Sound System) and converted into sound signals by the vehicle speakers.

The radio menu is accessed by pressing the relevant radio function keys. The following station tuning is possible
^ Tuning by station list
^ Tuning by program type list
^ Tuning by frequency list
^ Tuning by station search
^ Tuning by station search on multifunction steering wheel (MFL)
^ Tuning by autostore memory
^ Tuning by scan search (the stations of a waveband are played for 8 seconds)
^ Tuning by hand
^ Tuning using station preset
^ Tuning by manual frequency entry

The following functions are also available and are displayed on the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3):
^ Noise suppression
^ Selection of stations with strong signals with radio data system (RDS) reception
^ "RDS" function

RDS function
Apart from the normal radio program, many radio stations (FM) transmit additional inaudible digital information such as station names, program type (e.g. pop, culture, etc.) and traffic radio recognition.

This information is evaluated by the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) and displayed on the screen, provided that the following prerequisites are met:
^ The "RDS" function is activated.
^ An RDS station has been tuned
