GF82.60-P-2003RCJ Volume/Tone Adjustments, Function
- with CODE (527) COMAND APS with single DVD drive (with navigation)
- with CODE (498) Japan version

Function requirements
^ Status "Circuit 30 ON" or "Circuit 15R ON"
^ The cockpit management and data system (COMAND) is authorized and an audio source is in operation

General
All volume and tone settings can be made on the COMAND operating display and controller unit (A40/3). This is performed either by the user or automatically by the speed-dependent volume control (SDV [GAL]). The volume and sound setting function can be conducted as follows:
^ Function sequence for general volume setting and general, extended tone settings via left multifunction steering wheel button group (S110) or right multifunction steering wheel button group (S111)
^ Function sequence for general volume adjustment and general, expanded tone settings on control buttons and rotary actuator on COMAND controller unit
^ Function sequence for speed-dependent volume control

The COMAND controller unit comes not only with the general tone settings such as bass, treble, balance and fader, it also is equipped with extended tone settings. These are:
- Ambiance with code (810) Sound system
- Surround with code (810) Sound system

Operating instructions
The volume/tone settings can be made using the following components:
- The + and - buttons for setting specific functions and volume control (S111s1) on the multifunction steering wheel (MFL)
- With the rotary switch of the COMAND controller unit

Function sequence for general volume setting and general, extended tone settings via the multifunction steering wheel button groups
Pressing the + and - buttons for adjustment of specific functions and volume control (S111s1) allows volume for the desired audio function to be increased or decreased. Selecting the "Sound" menu using the multifunction steering wheel button groups enables general or extended tone settings to be made.

The control signals are forwarded TO THE COMAND controller unit over the following path:
- Steering LIN
- Steering column tube module (N80)
- Interior CAN

The volume and tone settings are shown on the display of the COMAND controller unit. The volume setting can be carried out separately for each audio source. Predefined settings can be selected and reset to the manufacturer default setting via the system settings.

Function sequence for general volume adjustment and general, expanded tone settings on control buttons and rotary actuator on COMAND controller unit
The rotary actuator of the COMAND controller unit can be used to manually set the tone settings (bass, treble, balance, fader as well as tone options) for each audio source. The required tone settings can be performed via the "Sound" menu. They can be set separately for each function (e.g. CD, radio reception, traffic announcements). The control signals are read and evaluated by the COMAND controller unit. The desired settings in vehicles with code (810) Sound system are transmitted to the amplifier for sound system (N40/3) via the MOST. Vehicles with code (810) Sound system are also equipped with the following tone options:
- Surround
- Ambiance

If the tone emphasis is changed (balance, fader) the volume relationship between the individual speakers changes relative to each other.

For vehicles except code (810) Sound system, the selected settings are processed internally, amplified and then emitted at the speaker system.

Function sequence for speed-dependent volume control
The speed-dependent volume control can be used to adapt the volume to the noise level in the vehicle interior. In this case, the vehicle speed signal is used as the reference value. This procedure will run automatically. After evaluating the relationship indicator, the audio output is matched to the noise level in the vehicle interior. Depending on the vehicle speed signal, the COMAND controller unit raises or lowers the output level of the audio signals.
The COMAND operating, display and controller unit receives the vehicle speed signal in the following way:
- Instrument cluster (A1)
- Interior CAN

In vehicles with code (810) Sound system, the audio signals are output by the COMAND operating, display and controller unit to the amplifier for sound system (N40/3) via the MOST and from there, via direct lines to the following speakers:
- Left door speaker group (H4/1)
- Right door speaker group (H4/2)
- Left rear speaker (H4/7)
- Right rear speaker (H4/8)
- Center cockpit speaker (centerfill) (H4/27)
- Left door tweeter (H4/33)
- Right door tweeter (H4/34)
- Left rear surround speaker (H4/54)
- Right rear surround speaker (H4/57)

On vehicles except code (810) Sound system, the audio signals and data are output by the COMAND operating, display and controller unit over direct lines to the following speakers:
- Left door speaker group
- Right door speaker group
- Left rear speaker
- Right rear speaker
- Center cockpit speaker (centerfill)
- Left door tweeter
- Right door tweeter
