To permanently protect seams, folds and flanges at risk from corrosion as well as interiors against moisture, dirt, etc., various types of sealing measures are carried out with hot butyl, flanged fold adhesive, polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and polyurethane (PUR) body seam sealing materials.
The areas where corrosion is critical are sealed with all materials as per the requirements and to some extent increase the strength of the components.

The use of hot butyl serves to undercoat, seal and bond bodies-in-white.
Flanged fold bonding is used in combination with spot welding where strength with good corrosion protection is needed.
PVC and PUR body seam sealing materials on overlaps, folds, in gaps and joints serve as sealants and corrosion protection and produce a visually smooth surface.
