Interior - Unable To Unlock Glove Compartment Lid

Glove Compartment Lid Remains Locked

If you receive customer reports in the above model vehicle that the glove compartment lid remains locked when the car is unlocked, the central locking module may be sticking or the interior central locking relay pin may be either broken or bent. Perform the following steps to resolve.





1. Press the top left corner of the glove compartment lid (Figure 1, arrow) and then lock and unlock the central locking with the interior switch.

2. If the glove compartment still does not open, repeat the above procedure until the lid unlocks.





3. With the glove compartment lid open, grease the two locking pins and the groove (Figure 2, arrow) in the left locking pin.

4. Check the locking pins for smooth movement.

5. Inspect the pin on the interior central locking relay for damage.





6. If this pin is broken or bent, it will be necessary to replace the CL motor (M14/18), part no. A002 542 42 19, (Figure 3). Proceed as follows.

7. Disconnect battery, attach quiescent current device.

8. Remove trim strip above the glove box door.

9. Remove right side under dash panel screws (3).

10. Remove kneebag mounting screws (2).

11. Remove lower glove box screws (2).

12. Remove glove compartment from instrument panel until electrical connectors in glove compartment illumination with switch (e13/2) and glove compartment CL motor (M14/18) are accessible.

Note:
On vehicles with code 819, CD change with 6 CDs, observe installation position of electric wiring harness and fiber optic cables for CD player with changer (in glove compartment).

13. Disconnect electrical connectors (5) from glove compartment illumination with switch (E13/2) and from glove compartment CL motor (M14/18).

14. Remove glove compartment.

15. Remove and replace interior central locking relay.

16. Reinstall removed parts in reverse order.
