GF98.00-P-2040A Top coat, general

Application of top coat
The top coat is an additional corrosion protection measure and provides the vehicle with an attractive, individual finish.

The top coat requirements are extremely dependent on the purpose of use and the nature of the objects that are being coated. Therefore, different qualities of top coat paint are used for painting passenger cars, buses and trucks.

The standard paint finishes in all DaimlerChrysler plants ensure that the paint system meets customer/application demands under economical and ecological aspects.

Targeted development and years of collaboration with our paint partners have made it possible to increase the quality level continuously.

For hygiene and environmental reasons, only top coating systems that are free of heavy metals and use as little solvent as possible are used on our vehicles.

Regardless of the paints that are used at DaimlerChrysler, internal quality specifications ensure that maximum resistance to chemical and mechanical effects is provided under extremely varying climatic conditions in a manner that protects the environment.

Two different top coat variants are basically possible:
- Single coat: standard paint
- Two coats: base coat (standard or metallic) and clearcoat

The specific properties of the top coat are:
- For base coats: color scheme and effect
- For clearcoats and single-coat standard paints: appearance, gloss, flow, weather resistance, lightfastness and resistance to environmental influences, chemical and mechanical effects
