DANGER: Keep away from ignition sources and open flames.

Potential risks
^ Risk of fire and explosion caused by machining/treating magnesium components.
^ Moreover during the mechanical processing with coolant lubricants mixed with water there is the danger of hydrogen occurring which represents an additional risk of explosion (oxyhydrogen gas).
^ Magnesium chips or dust mixed with oxygen has a tendency to burn or explode.
^ Further information can be seen in the accident prevention regulations or in the specifications of the professional/trade association.

Safety precautions/instructions
^ During machining/treating work do not smoke, stay away from ignition sources and open flames.
^ Store and transport magnesium chips only in dry, tightly sealed containers.
These containers must be stored in a cool place.

Fire protective measures, suitable fire extinguishing agents are:
^ Fire class D extinguishers (with powder nozzle), dry extinguishing blankets or dry sand.
On no account should the following be used: fire classification A, B, C fire extinguishers, water, carbon dioxide (CO2) or nitrogen.
