GF54.30-P-0002SK Instrument Cluster (IC), Function

The instrument cluster (A1) discharges the following functions:
^ For information on vital vehicle operating conditions
^ Warn the driver about critical operating conditions
^ As display unit for various systems
^ As computer and display for active service system PLUS (ASSYST PLUS)
^ As trip computer (TRIP)

Integrated within the instrument cluster (A1) are:
^ Upper multifunction display (A1p13)
^ Lower multifunction display (A1p15)
^ Various display instruments
^ Warning and indicator lamps
^ Warning buzzer (A1h1)

In addition, the instrument cluster (A1) transmits and receives signals through the Controller Area Networks Class C (engine compartment) (CAN-C) and the Controller Area Network Class B bus (interior) (CAN-B).

The instrument cluster module (A1) is equipped with a microprocessor to process incoming signal traffic. The program and necessary data are stored in an electronic memory chip.
The instrument cluster (A1) is controlled at the:
^ Left multifunction steering wheel pushbutton group (S110)
^ Right multifunction steering wheel pushbutton group (S111)
^ trip odometer reset button (A1s3)
^ instrument and search illumination rheostat button (+/-)

Following replacement of the instrument cluster (A1) it will be necessary to enter the ID code using STAR DIAGNOSIS. The coding and kilometer reading are then transmitted automatically from a vehicle control unit to the new instrument cluster (A1) via the Controller Area Network (data bus/CAN bus) (CAN).
