Modification notes
The operation descriptions and operation numbers have been matched with the "operation texts and work units" or "standard texts and flat rates".

1. General

Examination and approval of the exhaust characteristics of vehicles used on public roads (emissions test) is defined in paragraph 47 a and 47 b as well as in Annex VIII a of the (German) Road Traffic Registration Ordinance (StVZO).

In the Federal Republic of Germany an inspection of exhaust emissions has been mandatory since 01.04.1985.The vehicles which are subject to this exhaust emissions test are summarized in the overview of the test procedure.

Always refer to the microfilm "operation texts and work units" or "standard texts and flat rates" for the operation numbers for the repair order.
Refer to the valid repair microfilm for the repair procedure.

The test and setting data for vehicles not fitted with TWC as well as open-loop TWC are listed in the microfilm Emissions Test I.

Vehicles with a closed-loop TWC or with a diesel engine which are subject to Emissions Test II, are dealt with in a subsequent microfilm.

2. Survey of test methods

The following are exempted:
1. Motor vehicles with
a) Spark ignition engine (gasoline), which have fewer than four wheels, a permissible gross weight of less than 400 kg or a design-related maximum speed of less than 50 km/h, or which were first registered prior to 1st July 1969.
b) Compression ignition engine (diesel), which have less than four wheels or a design-related maximum speed of not more than 25 km/h, or which were first registered prior to 1st January 1977.
c) red license plate ( 28 StVZO).

2. Agricultural or forestry tractors.
3. Self-propelled machines not integrated in the maintenance service.

3. Notes on maintenance

The inspection items of the emissions test in the case of vehicles fitted with closed-loop catalytic converter and in the case of diesel engines are not contained in the previous maintenance service. For this reason, the emissions test is not integrated in the maintenance service.

Vehicles not fitted with a catalytic converter or with an open-loop catalytic converter, which were previously subject to the annual inspection interval, shall continue to be tested as part of the maintenance service.

4. Inspection and setting data

This microfilm contains the inspection and setting data of vehicles not fitted with TWC and with closed-loop TWC.
The work involved in locating a specific model is simplified by the model listing at the beginning.
