GF91.60-P-2006SK Head-on Collision, Function

Head-on collision
The restraint systems control unit (N2/7) takes the signals of the following components into account in the event of a head-on collision:
^ Data of the integrated sensor
^ Driver-side frontal acceleration sensor (B48/1)
^ Passenger-side frontal acceleration sensor (B48/2)

The following information is also evaluated for recording the situation in the vehicle interior:

Front passenger seat occupation status
The restraint systems control unit (N2/7) decides whether to trigger the front passenger restraint system equipment depending on the current seat occupation.

Front seat belt buckle status
If the driver seat belt buckle restraint systems switch (S68/3) or the front passenger seat belt buckle restraint systems switch (S68/4) detects that the belt latch has not been inserted into the seat belt buckle, the emergency tensioning retractor units and the belt force limiter units are not triggered.

The driver and front passenger airbag units are triggered with advanced ignition timing.

Depending on the severity of the impact and the situation in the vehicle, the following squibs of the corresponding restraint system equipment are triggered:
^ Passenger airbag squib 1 (R12/4)
^ Passenger airbag squib 2 (R12/5)
^ Driver airbag squib 1 (R12/13)
^ Driver airbag squib 2 (R12/14)
^ Front passenger kneebag squib (R12/24) (only (United States Of America) as from 1.6.06)
^ Driver kneebag squib (R12/25) (only (United States Of America) as from 1.6.06)
^ Drive buckle ETR squib (R46)
^ Front passenger ETR squib (R46/1)
^ Driver belt force limiter (R12/27)
^ Front passenger belt force limiter (R12/26)

The belt force limiter unit is only triggered in the event of a severe frontal crash, with ignition of driver airbag ignition squib 2 (R12/14) or of front passenger airbag squib 2 (R12/5).

It is activated to reduce the high retaining forces of the tensioned belt.
