AH00.00-P-5000-01A Notes On Avoiding Damage Through Contamination And Foreign Objects

With each maintenance and repair work to the engine as well as to the ancillary assemblies and detachable parts comes the danger of property damage caused by contamination and foreign bodies.
These are particularly vulnerable:
- hot film mass air flow sensor,
- turbocharger and compressor,
- all components involved in gas exchange,
- emission control system.

Remove/install
Openings through which contamination or foreign bodies can be brought into the engine, its ancillary assemblies or its detachable parts are to be plugged immediately with suitable, clean covers, plugs or clean, lint-free rags.

Installation: Leave no covers, plugs or rags for the assembly behind in order to avoid damages and complaints about engine running characteristics.

Before the assembly, check all components for contaminants, remaining foreign bodies and fluid and dispose of them.

Clean
For cleaning, use only clean tools and clean, lint-free rags.

Residues of cleaning agents and removed contaminants must be removed from the engine, ancillary assemblies and detachable parts.

Do not dispose of contaminants using compressed air because components (for example, heating wire of the hot film mass air flow sensor) could possibly be damaged or contamination could enter the engine, ancillary assemblies and detachable parts unnoticed.
