GF46.11-P-0001SK Steering Wheel Heater (LRH), Function

GF46.11-P-0001SK Steering wheel heater (LRH), function
- with CODE (443) Steering wheel heater

The steering wheel heater can be used to heat the steering wheel to provide a more comfortable and secure grip in cold weather. Via the steering wheel heater switch (S59/1s2) the heating wires of the heater coil in the steering wheel rim are energized to target temperature of approx. 35 degrees C depending on the duty cycle.

Function requirements
^ Circuit 15R ON or circuit 15 ON
^ no under voltage or over voltage recognized
^ Interior temperature < 30 degrees C

The position of the steering wheel heater switch (S59/1s2) (upwards or downwards) is read in by the steering column tube module (N80) and placed on the Controller Area Network Bus Class B (interior) (CAN B).

As long as the steering wheel heater switch remains (S59/1s2) in the ON" or "OFF" position, this position is transmitted every 100 ms. The center position acts as the rest position. The LED message from the LED on the steering wheel heater switch (S59/1s2) is placed by the seat heater, airscarf and front steering wheel heater control unit (N25/7) cyclically on CAN B. If the seat heater, airscarf and front steering wheel heater control unit (N25/7) receives the command "heat steering wheel", then the heater coil is energized.

In addition a temperature sensor measures the surface temperature of the steering wheel rim so that the target temperature is reached or held. In the case of heat a maximum current of 7.2 A flows at an operating voltage of approx. 13 V.

If the comfort AAC control and operating unit (N22/7) transmits the interior temperature < 30 degrees C via the CAN B, the seat heater, airscarf and front steering wheel heater control unit (N25/7) prevents the steering wheel heater being switched on (the LED remains switched on), so that overheating of the heater coil is avoided.
