Component Identification:

6 different functions can be selected using the selector lever and 3 different transmission modes can be selected using the transmission mode switch (S16/5).

Selector lever positions:
^ P Park lock and start position
^ R Reverse gear
^ N Neutral and start position
(no power transmission, vehicle can move freely)
^ D Drive (all 5 forward gears are available)
^ + Touch: Upshift by one gear per touch
In transmission modes "C" and "S" the shift range is extended at the same time.
Press and hold: Direct shift to drive position "D"
The shift range is displayed in the instrument cluster. If the shift range is restricted, upshifts occur close to the engine cutoff speed.
^ - Touch: Downshift by one gear per touch
In transmission modes "C" and "S" the shift range is restricted at the same time.
Press and hold: Transmission is shifted into a shift range from which the vehicle can be easily accelerated or decelerated.

Transmission mode switch (S16/6)
The following transmission modes can be selected:
^ S Sport mode
- Start-off in 1st gear for all driving situations

^ C Comfort mode
- Start-off in 2nd gear except in 1st gear range
Gear changes are performed at lower engine speeds.

If kick down is actuated, the gears are shifted up and down as for transmission mode "S".

^ M Manual shift program
- direct gear selection using selector lever or left steering wheel gear shifter and right steering wheel gear shifter (up to 31.5.06) or steering wheel gear shifter MINUS and steering wheel gear shifter PLUS (as of 1.6.06)
