Power flow in 6th gear, general
The drive shaft (1) makes use of all 3 planetary gear sets to increase the torque developed by the torque converter and transmit it to the transmission output shaft (5).

The following multidisk brakes, overrunning clutches and multidisk clutches are not engaged:
- Multidisk brake B2 (22)
- Multidisk brake B3 (23)
- Overrunning clutch F2 (28)
- Multidisk clutch K1 (24)

In 5th gear, the power flows through the following gear sets:
^ Front planetary
^ Rear planetary gear set
^ Center planetary gear set

Front planetary
The input shaft (1) drives the ring gear (29/4). In drive mode, the sun gear (29/1) is supported at the housing via the locked overrunning clutch F1 (27) and, in overrun mode, via the engaged multidisk brake B1 (21). The planet gears (29/2) revolve around the fixed sun gear (29/1) and provide an increase in torque between the ring gear (29/4) and the planet carrier (29/3). The planet carrier (29/3) moves at reduced speed in the direction of engine rotation.

Rear planetary gear set
The multidisk clutch K2 (25) is engaged and transmits the transmission input speed of the drive shaft (1) via the ring gear (31/4) to the planet carrier (31/3). The ring gear (31/4) rotates at reduced speed due to the mechanical connection to the planet carrier (29/3). The planet gears (31/2) turn between the ring gear (31/4) and the sun gear (31/1). The sun gear (31/1) moves at an increased speed in the running direction of the engine.

Center planetary gear set
The ring gear (30/4) turns at the transmission input speed due to the engaged multidisk clutch K2 (25). Due to the connection to the sun gear the multi-disk clutch K3 (26) transmits (31/1) an increased rotational speed to the sun gear (30/1). The planet gears (30/2) turn between the ring gear (30/4) and the sun gear (30/1). The speed of the planet carrier (30/3) and transmission output shaft (5) connected to it lies between the ring gear (30/4) and sun gear (30/1). This provides a step-up ratio.
