AR35.30-P-0661-03P Dismantling constant-velocity joint, inspecting for wear, assembly
- with rear axle set

Dismantle constant velocity joint

Component Identification:

1 Mark the position of the joint ring (37c), joint hub (37d) and ball retainer (37f) in relation to one another.

Component Identification:

2 Align rear axle shaft (37a) so that the narrow web (arrow) of the joint hub (37d) points upwards.

Component Identification:

3 Press the two balls directed upwards out of the raceway using a suitable tool.

Component Identification:

4 Tilt rear axle shaft (37a) and turn slightly to remove from the joint ring (37c).

Hold the remaining balls in place when removing.

5 Remove the remaining balls from the joint ring (37c)
6 Remove ball cage from joint hub.
7 Clean all parts.

Check constant velocity joint

Component Identification:

8 Check joint ring, joint hub, ball retainer ball raceways and ball bearings for depressions (pitting) and traces of wear (arrows).

If these components display major wear then the entire rear axle shaft should be replaced. Smooth areas and running marks caused by the balls do not indicate any need to replace the rear axle shaft.

If the outer constant velocity joint is defective, then the rear axle shaft must be replaced.

Assembling CV joint

Component Identification:

9 Insert rear axle shaft (37a) with joint hub (37d) and ball retainer (37f) in joint ring (37c) and align so that the balls can be inserted.

Before inserting the joint hub, pack half the quantity of grease in the joint ring.

10 Install ball cage on joint hub.

Watch the alignment marks made earlier. In the event of the marking not being applied, the ball retainer must be mounted on the joint hub so that a wide web on the joint hub is always opposite a narrow web on the joint ring.

11 Insert balls one after the other.
