Controlling CD player
The CD player with changer (in glove compartment) (A2/6) is controlled via the Media Oriented System Transport (MOST), dependent on the vehicle equipment, by the following components:
^ Radio (A2)
^ Radio and navigation unit (A2/56)
^ COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3)
The CD player with changer (in glove compartment) (A2/6) generates messages for the following operating states:
^ No magazine in CD changer
^ Magazine occupation
^ Number of current CD
^ Number of current title
^ List of occupied CD insertion slots
^ Number of titles per CD
^ Playing time of the current track
^ Current operating state (playback, pause, etc.)
The messages are placed on the MOST and interpreted by the radio (A2), the radio and navigation unit (A2/56) or the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3).
CD playback
The audio data is stored digitally on the CD. In the CD player with changer (in glove compartment) (A2/6) the audio CD is driven by a motor. The laser-optical device scans the side of the rotating CD with no label without touching and converts the digital optical signals into electric signals. Small missing points in the data stream of the laser-optical device (resulting from scratches or dirt on the audio CD) are interpolated and thereby compensated. The electrical signals are then decoded in the CD player with changer (in glove compartment) (A2/6) and transmitted via MOST, dependent on the equipment of the vehicle, to the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3), the radio and navigation unit (A2/56), the radio (A2) or the sound amplifier (A2/13).
Playback of an audio CD in MP3 format
In the CD player with changer (in glove compartment) (A2/6), it is possible to play conventional audio CDs and also audio CDs in the MP3 format. A conventional audio CD is emulated (simulated).
In the CD player with changer (in glove compartment) (A2/6) in some cases playback of copy-protected audio CDs may be restricted.
