Component Identification:
Pull out rear axle shaft flange
1 Insert threaded bolt (010j), part 03, through rear axle shaft flange (10) from the inside and bolt on bracket (010g).
2 Lay support plate (010d) (depending on model) on face of wheel carrier (7).
3 Pass pressure plate (010f) with thrust pin (010b) through bracket and lay on support plate (010d).
4 Position hydraulic auxiliary press (010h) between thrust washer (010f) and bracket (010g). Unscrew pressure screw (010k) on hydraulic auxiliary press and then screw in bolt (1st version) or hand wheel (2nd version, 010i) of bracket until it rests on the pressure cylinder of hydraulic auxiliary press.
Component Identification:
5 Screw in pressure screw (010k) on hydraulic auxiliary press (010h) (max torque 40 Nm) until the rear axle shaft flange is pressed out.
Apply a hard blow to the bracket (arrow) using a hammer at 20 Nm.
If the travel distance is insufficient in the first pressing-out operation, the pressure screw (010k) must be turned back and the bolt (1st version) or hand wheel (2nd version, 010i) must be adjusted on the bracket.
Pressure screw of hydraulic auxiliary press without shear pin, 1st version:
Screw in pressure screw (010k) to a max. torque of 40 Nm (corresponds to an extraction force of 12 to 13 t). If this extraction force is insufficient, the complete wheel carrier with rear axle shaft flange must be removed and pressed out on a fixed-position hydraulic press.
If the max. torque is exceeded, both the extraction tool and the hydraulic auxiliary press may be irreparably damaged!
Pressure screw of hydraulic auxiliary press with shear pin, 2nd version:
In order to make the use of the extractor tool 202 589 04 43 00 even safer, as of now the pressure screw of the hydraulic auxiliary press is fitted with a shear pin. This pin shears off at approx. 40 Nm. This prevents the hydraulic auxiliary press from building up more pressure.
The modified pressure screw with shear pin is available as a replacement part with the special tool number 202 589 04 43 11.
Component Identification:
Pull in rear axle shaft flange
6 Pull rear axle shaft flange (10) into double-row angular ball bearing (8) using insertion tool.
Ensure that the pressure plate (small), part 03, abuts the bearing inner race snugly when pulling in (arrow).
